Default Air-Bypass Valve to Eliminate Hydrolock?

Anyone have any info on this item? Vette Mag mentions a company AEM that has this item. As a lot of us have after market air inductions systems that pulls cool air from the bottom, driving thru standing water can cause hydrolock. Any info pls...

AEM makes them for a lot of their CAI applications, which over their history have been predominantly import/spo-com rides. I don't believe that they even make parts for C5's, and a search of their website just confirmed it. Regardless, the air-bypass valve is more or less just a coupler made out of foam filter element that goes in between intake piping a little higher up in the motor, so that if your filter gets soaked, the car draws air from wherever the bypass is located. The only place I could see this piece possibly fitting would be where the intake connects to the air bridge.

Yeh, I just read about hydrolock happenings in the new Vette Magazine.
A couple weeks ago during a discussion on the vara- ram I and some others were pretty much put down for even mentioning the possability of this happening by a few of our fellow members. When I related that a good friend of mine"s "97" had this happen to him I got the old "Its always some cousin, friend or somebody else but That It"s just an old wives tail! Well, I guess that James Berry [tech guru] for Vette magazine is also a nut like me because he doe's a 3 page article in the technically speaking section on this very subject with pictures.
I especially like the pic on page 21 of the hole in the side of the block of a guys vette from water ingestion from a c.a.i..
I guess thats somebodys immagination too!

The engine does draw air through the coupler. It will need to be placed before the MAF or else you'll be taking in unmetered air.

Scuba Diving with a Vette is stupid! Guess what? Water gets ingested if the driver cannot connect the Brake pedal to his brain before plunging into the abyss. Then complaining about it is the 2nd stage of stupidity. Personally I'd be too embarrassed to admit I ran into a water trap, but certainly wouldn't fault the car!

Of course your right, the thread has nothing at all to do with "HYDROLOCK"! How did i ever think it did? i mean it isnt because the name of the thread is "Air-bypass valve to eliminate hydro lock" or something!
Gee, I feel stupid for thinking that!

You should. It's not about hydrolock. It's about the effectiveness of a part that would reduce any possibility of hydrolock. Let's try to keep the subject on topic and not let your pissing contest from the other thread trickle into this one. Thanks!

as long as you dont try to turn your vette into a boat you wont hydrolock. if you submerge enough to hydrolock, you will have more porblems than the engine because water will be going into the car.

Also hydrolock is covered under comprehensive coverage

It has rubber flap that cover the openings when there's no vacuum present in the intake tube.

Prevents things like this from happening (pic is of the 2.2 Ecotec in my old 2004 Olds)...
