I went to a wanna go fast 1/2 mile top speed competition this weekend in north GA. I'm proud to say a c6 z06 got the top speed of the day at 205mph. I must say I was very impressed with the vette and mustang turn out/performance . One particular 02/03 mustang cobra went 167mph and wasn't as moded as the vettes. It smoked lambos and an Audi R8. The helcats and camaros averaged 150mph. Really comes down to how much you want to spend/how fast you want to go.

I'm sure it did. I didn't get to talk to the driver but it was highly modified. No passenger seat had two big nitrous bottles instead. Also a parachute on the back. He used it the first run but not on second. Just an all out beast!

The C5Z has near perfect 50/50 weight distribution, is lighter, has a lower center of gravity, and pulls 1g on the skidpad.
A stock Mustang, unless it's the new 350R, is not going to outhandle and post better lap times than a C5Z.

Your observation (and those of some others on here) is purely anecdotal.

A 2002 C5Z and a 2015 GT (nowhere near stock).

a buddy of mine has a 2011 with CAI, drag radials, skinnies, tune and stall and he goes 11.2 .
Fast cars, but dont worry man, worst case scenario you lose, big deal. At least you can have some fun.

The older I get the sillier these types of "comparisons" become to me. With aftermarket support, just about any car can be whatever you want it to be.
Own/drive what you like.
My Cobra would probably beat 90+% of the cars on this forum in a drag race, but it was built for that and it should. That didn't make me love my Z06 any less. Different cars for a different purpose, and a true car guy can find something to love about all sorts of different cars.

I owned a 2014 lightly modded 5.0 GT with 3.73s in the diff between owning my 2001 and now 2003 C5Z. Two completely different cars but both awesome in their own way. The Mustang was more comfortable to drive but couldn't handle like the Z06. 0-60 would be close. Two reasons I sold the GT and went back to another C5Z: 1) It had 53k miles and 2) I hate the S197 interior! It is so archaic and makes the C5 interior look modern. LOL Now the 2015+ interior is another thing but they are just way too heavy. If they were 200-300lbs lighter I'd be looking at them.
