tps or tpms bands - battery life
Just bought a super clean 2004 C5 triple black with 13,000 miles and non-stock wheels. I'm in the process of purchasing stock replacement wheels (chrome plated) my question is (as I purchase all related parts) Should I replace the 7 year old TPS sensors because of battery life issues instead of tranfering to the new stock wheels. And if I purchase new TPS sensors, does installation require a me to purchase a TPS "band" to secure them in place. I tend to figure that because of the low miles and because the the sensors don't activate untill 10mph, there still may be plenty of life left in the existing TPS and worthy the expense of transfer to the new wheels....any opinions on the subject. Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

When you get new wheels is a great time to replace the sensors. No you don't need bands with the stock wheels. They'll mount right up.

The quoted battery life is 7 to 10 years so those are getting to the end of their life. Also, a battery degrades faster in colder weather so living in MN you might be at greater risk of an early failure.
If it was me I'd change them now. A new later model sensor is only about $40 and it can cost $25 to pull the tire if the sensor dies. FWIW I fitted new to my 02 when I fitted my Crays last year.
You don't need bands and the later sensors have the O rings built in.

Going with stock wheels, no need to use bands - the sensors will mount to the wheels in the stock location. I would go ahead and replace the sensors - no sense in having to break the bead again to replace sensors since the original ones are probably close to the end of their expected life.
