I bought my AE in 2007 off of Ebay from the original Chevy dealer. He had kept it for show room appeal and the odd parade. One of the things he gave me was a copy of his original invoice. I hope it is readable below.
Note that his actual cost after deducting his holdback and GMAC credit was $47,793.66 vs the invoice amount of $50,242.94.

The 2003 Corvette with RPO 1SC is not a "Special Edition" vehicle produced by Chevrolet. It is a 50th Anniversary Edition Corvette. All other 2003 Corvettes were manufactured in the year of the 50th Anniversary of the Corvette.
A 2012 Corvette is a 59th Anniversary Corvette.
“Well, isn't that special?”

I was looking at the link in"Highinfiber's" post. It says there were 10889 AE's built (which is the number I've seen before). However, the link says that there were only 7090 shale interiors.
I thought all the AE's got the shale interior. What interior/interiors went in the other 3000 cars???

Here is a picture of mine. It should turn 100K in the next two weeks, weather permitting.

No doubt beautiful...
Hate to get your shorts in a knot but all 2003 Corvettes are 50th Anniversary Vettes, all share the same 50th Anniversary badging. However the beautiful examples here all sport the 1SC 50th Anniversary Package and are commonly referred to as 50th Anniversary Edition (AE) Corvettes.
Also, there were not 10889 50th AE Vettes built, there were 11,632 totalling 33% of the production in 2003. Beautiful yes, rare not really.
It really is a shame that GM overproduced such a fantastic color combo from the standpoint of rarity and resale. On the other hand they gave 11,632 people the distinct pleasure of driving a stunning machine.
I originally wanted the AE but just couldn't come up with the cash at the time. So I picked up the rarest color in 2003, white. Love it, drive it, but never buy a car hoping to make a buck later.
Check this RPO Chart for the complete run of 03 Vettes.

All semantics aside, seeing this thread is now back on track and including facts, here are a few -
Not only was the Shale interior included in all 11,632 of the ’03 A/Es, but 14% of all the ’04 models had the Shale interior, that being in the Le Mans Blue Commemorative Editions. Production numbers on the C/Es are 4,829 total, of which 2,659 were Verts, and 2,170 Coupes.
Two new Vocabulary Words are included in today’s lesson, they are:
1) Magneto-Rheological Fluid - this if the synthetic oil with millions of tiny iron ***** in the F55 shocks ( the only true performance option included in the 1SC package ). This fluid reacts to a magnetic field generated by an electric coil on the shock piston, thereby changing the fluid's viscosity, allowing for real time dampening, the end result is one heck of a road hugging ride.
2) Xirallic Aluminum Oxide Flake - these flakes lay flatter than typical metal flakes, allowing for more to be used, which creates the depth and pop that makes the Anniversary Red paint glow. The still photos here can’t really capture the effect light has on the car when moving.
Lastly, a few more quick facts, before another picture - On May 26th 2002, actor Jim Caviezel drove the Anniversary Edition Pace Car at the 86th Indianapolis 500, at the time in '02, it was the 5th time a Vette was the pace car, other years were, 78, 86, 95, & 98.
Finally, the wheels on A/Es are merely painted aluminum with a specific center cap, contrary to a popular belief, they are not the optional magnesium wheel.
Keep those facts and pictures coming -

That's the issue... Corvette Museum says it is a Special Edition. I won't push it if you don't. ;-)

What's so hard to understand????
All 2003 Corvettes are 50th anniversary Corvettes.
Only the 2003 Corvettes with the 1SC option are the Anniversary Edition Corvettes.
To put it a different way, if it "ain't" a 2003 Vette in the anniversary red color with a shale interior, it "ain't" an Anniversary EDITION Vette.
To put it a third way, if the car has a black dash, it isn't an Anniversary EDITION Vette.
I understand how non-Vette enthusiasts get that mixed up (or shyster car dealers), but Vette enthusiasts should be able to keep the differences straight.
