trying to ship my C5 from Japan, EPA decal missing
I just found out today the EPA decal is missing from under the hood of my C5. The shipping port asked me to email pictures of the EPA and DOT decals. The DOT is located at the rear end of the driver's door- that's there. On the driver's side front fender, there is kind of a clean rectangular spot suggesting where a decal used to be- I'm assuming that WAS the EPA/emissions decal that used to be there. Can anyone verify this is where the decal is supposed to be? I searched but can't find much.
Anyone ever deal with this issue before? I'm leaving this $hit-hole island of Okinawa in 3 weeks on my way to Oklahoma City and need to get this solved in the next 2 weeks, or I may have to sell the car or deal with a power of attorney and end up waiting a LONG time to take delivery. FML

Thanks for posting- that's exactly where there is an unusually clean spot on mine. Why the hell anyone would remove that baffles me. I've asked my dad in Minneapolis to see if he can get one from a local dealership and mail it to me. Was hoping there might an insider tip from someone on the forum on how to expedite.

A dealership should be able to get you a new decal, unless it has been discontinued. I have one for a 2000 C5, but it does specifically say it is for that model year on the decal. If all they want is a decal in place, you can have mine. But if they want one that says it is for a 1999 model year, the dealer is your best bet.

Maybe you can explain to the port authority your dilemma and see if they would except a direct fax from the dealership while you wait for the original to arrive in the mail?

The above is a really good picture so save in paint, print to decal and apply? J/K of course!

2023 C5 of the Year Finalist - Unmodified
From my experience of importing my cars both into the US and the UK is to make sure you have the right documents in place before arrival. With it, it's easy but without it, its a nightmare. Getting that sticker is really important

It appears as if your VIN is on this decal. Is that the case? I suppose if I were good with photoshop I could change it to my VIN, print it and stick it. I'm just not so sure if everyone who might look at it between here and taking delivery would buy off on it. What's silly is it's not like I'm trying to import a silly Nissan Skyline or whatever like so many dream about doing here- this is a C5 Corvette- same as any other on the road. The only difference that I can find are factory installed (I'm guessing) tow hooks on the front and rear. The owner's manual is in Japanese, so I'm guessing it was ordered as an export.
Does anyone know of a decent site for getting VIN history without paying an arm and a leg?

You MAY have a problem. Sounds like what you're describing owning is a J(Japan)-Spec car that was manufactured by GM FOR export. It MAY NOT comply with US EPA/DOT regulations. Having had a grey-market BMW back in the day, the certification process (if even possible based on the year) can be long and very costly. Perhaps you can have someone research your VIN-there will be a digit /letter somewhere that will indicate if it's J-Spec. Alternatively post your VIN here for those who are more knowledgeable than me to decipher. Depending on what you have you MAY NOT be able to import it. SORRY.

EPA Sticker
Thanks Gang for the help with this issue.
I sent copy of images from post 2 & 6 to a local dealer here in Mpls.
The agent there also has the VIN number, and will get back with something soon.
Hopefully as was stated, that it's not vehicle spec for Japan only.

Found Something
Was thinking if the export designation wasn't integral to the VIN that maybe it was an option code. IT IS:
http://www.digitalcorvettes.com/foru...ad.php?t=61526
So look on the sticker in your glove box for:
CV5-Country Code, Japan and/or
EXP Export, I.P.C.
And a bunch of others-NA3, UK1, T85, T89, U19, VB1, VE1...
All these would apply to an export car. The MOST important one will probably be NA3-Emission System Japan. Good luck.

Good News.
Dealer just called to verify sticker will be on hand in 48 hours to ship from Michigan, to my door, then next day air it out.
There was no specifics to what's on the sticker.
