There is nothing wrong with an Fbody, They have their place in the chain, Not really a downgrade as you say, They are 2 different cars, I have 1 of each and I get comments on both.

1. No active handling
2. Solid axle
3. Cracked door panels and other interior rattles
4. No DIC or HUD, overall much cheaper interior
5. Horrible power windows
I never said there is "something wrong" with f-bodies. I've always liked them and still do. I almost bought a Firehawk before I looked at a C5 on a sheer whim. But they are a major downgrade from a C5 if you ask me, especially given the negligible price difference since C5 prices have fallen and the price gap between C5's and f-bodies has narrowed. If that's not a downgrade, then please enlighten me as to what a downgrade is.
I'm kinda shocked... I knew keep the C5 would be the popular opinion here. But, I thought the 2002 SS/LE would get a little more love than this. I'm still on the fence, I'll let everyone know what I do soon.

Mr. Bill, that is a great looking Bird. Driving a 4th gen bird is what got me into hot rodding again after many years. I built a ram air lll style engine for my 77 T/A but didn't drive it enough to satisfy. So I bought and built a 87 GTA and used it for a DD with some track time. Still wasn't enough so I built a 92 Grand Am tube car for me and a backhalf 96 bird for my son and went racing. Sold the Grand Am and bought my vette last year. Happy now, but would like to have a newer bird too. Wife says I'm too greedy. Does a man ever have enough toys?
Before I got my C5 I was in the same predicament. It was either a C5 or LE SS. I fell in love with the car when I was in high school when I was driving a V6 5 speed camaro. I have always been a camaro guy, but I drove a C5 and never looked back. I say only get the camaro if you can keep the vette as well.
I too had a 99 Firebird.....loved it! BUT if I ever traded my C5 for another .....someone please SHOOT ME! Cause I'm already BRAIN DEAD and have become a walking ZOMBIE!
No chance here, How about you tell us why you want to do this? They are 2 different cars and are not even close.
Mr.Bill
JMHO but I've always thought that they looked like a big Neon with those headlamps. It's your $ & decision of course. You MIGHT get a more balanced answer in a Camaro forum as I'm sure there would be more of them wanting to switch to a Vette than those of us wanting to go to a Camaro.

c5's have their fair share of problems too, but i wouldn't go for the camaro either... i sold my t/a about a year and a half ago to get my z06 and i don't miss it at all... it was a nice car yeah, but not at all comparable to the z... it all comes down to what you really want, who cares what any of us think
Having owned a 35th Anniversary Limited Edition SS, a 99 Z28, and a 98 Formula, I'd say keep the vette if you can afford both. The Fbody cars are awesome in their own right though!
This is my first post because over the weekend, I traded my 98 Formula(11.80et car) for a 2002 ZO6(just headers and B&B PRT exhaust) and love the way the ZO6 rides and handles compared to the Fbodies. I've zero regrets so far!
