Hey guys,
I just bought a C5 this week, and I love it. One thing I've noticed the most is that cops are always following me, slowing down when I drive near them, and even parking behind my car when I am not driving it and running my plates. Do you guy shave similar problems with them? I don't want to be profiled all the time in this thing.

How old are you ? Do you look like a "person of interest ? Is there something about the look or sound of your Corvette that attracts police attention ? Do you frequent places where police officers go ? Do you have a very pretty lady friend who's skirt has been shut in the door ? Is your rear license plate mounted upside down ? How do you know the police are running your plates ?

Unfortunately, you can count on being profiled. It's been a fact of life ever since cars started coming off the assembly line in colors other than black. And a Corvette doesn't have to be going fast to get noticed; it looks like it's going fast anyway. It's also a fact that red and yellow cars are more apt to be targeted than the more sedate colors. I promote the use of radar dectectors, not to be able to speed, but to let me know when I'm liable to be "observed" and profiled. I learned all this the hard way as a teen with a nice yellow 55 chevy. I lived in Bellevue, WA and got one ticket after another for all sorts of violations, some of which I actually deserved and others just to harass me.
The car was sweet! Sold it and bought a VW...

Is it really loud?
Do you have this bumper sticker?
Do you look like this?
Maybe you have this plate?
I've been driving C5's for 8 years (pretty crazy driver), and I've never even been pulled over.

I'm a young guy and I've never gotten pulled over in my Vette. It's very loud - H/C/I plus Longtubes, O/R X Pipe, and Borla Stingers but usually I get waves or thumbs up from local cops.

Are you the only Corvette for miles around?
In this part of Florida, if the cops harrassed every vette in town the donut shops would go out of business.

I live in the western suburbs of Philadelphia. I am a white 26 year old male. I have had the targa top off the car literally since I bought it. It is Navy Blue Metallic and has a Bassani X-Pipe with Borla Stingers exhaust. I am coming from an LS1 Camaro with Loudmouth II (louder than the C5), and I never was followed like this so we can rule out the noise.
A funny thing happened when I arrived in town from bringing the car back from the sale the other night. I was with a good friend of mine, and we NEEDED gas, I mean we were going to stall out if we didn't get it. Unfortunately our only choice was the cop laden exit of a local freeway. I pulled into the nearest gas station and filled her up with premium. I let my friend drive so I sat in the passenger seat while he filled the gas and we watched two cop cars pull in, stop, and stare at the car. Let me remind you all that this car had my 99 Z/28 tags on it just so I could get it home, and the car has NO inspection stickers on it since I just bought it. I did have insurance and the title on me though Anyways, one cop rolls down his window and says "there's the car right there, we've been looking for that stolen car all night! Just kidding, its a great night to be out cruisin' guys, enjoy it!" Then he drove away. Thank god I was sitting down, in the passenger seat no less because I was scared to all heck. We drove away but not before being followed by numerous districts throughout the night. She's fully tagged now, but I couldn't resist cruising that night.

I spent 34+ years in law enforcement and I can count the number of Corvettes I stopped on one hand. I wonder how many people "thought" I was following them when I was just driving from point A to point B. I also chuckle when someone suggests that police officers ticket sports cars or nice cars because they're jealous or envious. Personally, I couldn't have cared less what kind of car someone was driving. It was their actions that attracted my attention, not their car.
