'66 vette rolls off trailer going down highway

Pulling a trailer and car with a lincoln towncar.....I am amazed the setup lasted long enough for the Vette to have a chance to roll off. Or maybe its better that it did. I would hate to see what would have happened at 70mph if it all stayed together.

1. He is lucky
2. Always use the right size tie down straps. He probably used some "ribbon style" straps.
3. Should have checked the straps after driving 1 mile to see if the load has shifted and re-tighten the straps. That was probably not followed. Also should have wedged a piece of wood behind one or two tires.

I am glad he was lucky, such a nice car. I just towed my son's Lingenfelter Corvette 500 miles with no issues. Always, check, check again and double check once more before hitting the highway and then stop and check the load, tire temp, bearing temp to make sure you don't have issues along with double checking tie downs. I think some States now have a trailering law that says a Chain must tie the car to the trailer to back up the popular tie down straps.

I'm amazed at some people who have so much money invested in a car would use what amounts to $20. spaghetti straps to hold it on.
Aside from hauiling the whole thing with a cushy boat like a Lincoln!
I have a friend who was hauling a trailer with a Buick station wagon on it, towing it with a 3/4 ton van with a Harley dresser inside, lost control when it started swaying at 70 mph, the whole thing rolled over, the van landed on its side, and the trailer twisted completely upside down, the car never moved, stayed strapped on, and the trailer stayed connected to the van.
Stupid overloaded setup going way too fast, lucky he didn't kill anyone, he learned a valuable lesson that day, hope this guy did too!

Owner and Car are fine
Hey y'all remember the story of this car? Well I got a email from the owner of this cars son,,,,,,WOW, small world. His Dad is 75, and they are embarrassed as to what happened, his dad forgot to hook up his safety chains ! He has owned the '66 vette since 1970 and towed it to a lot of places with no incidences. The vette survived the dismount with only a few scratches on the undercarriage and the front bumper needs rechromimg and the owner is ok as well. Miraculous ending to a very interesting story.

Someone needs to explain to the driver the concept of safety chains. At one point in my life I managed a towing company. When training employees part of it was the proper use of rated safety chains. They are a must have! Don't tow without them folks.
