When you guys bought your Vette, did your insurance sky rocket??
I'm finally getting closer to purchasing my first Corvette. It will probably be an earlier C5. I'm in NJ and we have the highest insurance rates in the country. So I called my agent the other day and he said with full coverage, my insurance will go up about $80 a month. By the way, I'm no kid. I'm in my 50's.
So I was just wondering how you guys or gals made out insurance wise. Thanks for your help. I appreciate it!

I had a Mustang Cobra before I purchased my Corvette. I was pleasantly surprised to find that the insurance on my Vette was cheaper than the Mustang. I was in my early 50's when I purchased it, which could make a difference if you're younger.

Insurance ?
I have had 4 Corvettes before this one and nothing changed in my Nationwide policy's of any mention. But last year I switched and have coverage through the NCM/Adam Boca insurance company. Fantastic rates/ same coverage and no real mileage limiter.

I went from an 05 Aztek to the '97 Vette with no change in full coverage price. From the homeliest car GM ever made to the prettiest in one giant leap! I'm 63 with a clean record, I'm sure younger drivers results will be higher.

The premium on my C5 is actually less than what it was on the 2007 Mustang GT Convertible 5-speed that it replaced. This is through USAA. When I called to add the Corvette I asked why it was less (always heard that Corvettes were notoriously expensive to insure) and was told that the demographics of the average Corvette owner were of a lower risk category than those of the Mustang GT. The USAA rep said that in the area where I live there are lots of single, under 23 year old males driving new Mustang GTs (mostly Marines, many of whom have just returned from places like Iraq & Afghanistan) but such is not the case for Corvettes.
My renewal just arrived yesterday and the Corvette portion is $225 for the next 6 months. I'm 56 years old and haven't had a ticket or accident in a long time. Was a little stunned to see the "Mature Driver Discount" this time around though!

Yeah usaa is the best for insurance. I'm 27, my husband is 30. We have full coverage on a 81 & 99 vette , Volvo s60r, Benz ml350, 01 crown Vic for around 250/month. My insurance has went up and down more by what state we are living in than adding or removing one car.

Yes but I moved from Lincolnshire, England to Las Vegas, NV. USAA who had insured me in Texas decided that they were not going to insure "resident aliens" (read foreign military) so I got the message.

We changed from USAA after 18 years to GEICO, as they didn't want to insure me for only having a greencard.
We pay around $200 for a Jeep Grand Cherokee (2007), $200 Roush 427R Stage 3 Mustang, and $600 for the 2000 Vet - every six months. Can't say I'm a fan of what the vet costs us with insurance, but it's fun to have.

I'm not the only one then!

Ironic given the differences in driver education between the US and the UK. Even I had to take a driving test when I got back to the US despite a clean license for 30 years at that time.

I think I may have the record though. My son as an 18 year old driver in vegas on the Camaro on a Brit license was running the equivalent of $10,000 a year until he got his NV license.

I'm a war pensioner, former Royal Navy - and from up the road in Scotland, near Lossy.
I can't tell you how many times I've spoken with the car insurance companies over here, having to explain that my first language is English and I can read the road signs!
Did my advanced driving course while in the mob...and yet I'm treated like a pikey over here when it comes to driving.
What can you do right?

Nope my 2003 Vette actually cost me like $7 less per month than my 04 350Z did.
No tickets / Multiple car discount. However, I do claim that I drive the car about 12k miles per year but, the policy not limitted I'm told. I put less than 5K miles per year on her. 6mos full coverage $500 ded 50/100/300 is $276. I am 52 going on 18.
Good luck !!! Shop your rates. I had to move from Allstate a few years back because they were hiking the rate for no reason. No tickets, No claims .... I saved over $1500 across the board just shopping it. Mercury / Progressive is who I ride with now.
Prior to that I had to make a move from State Farm for same reason. I think there is some formula they use like- If you haven't had any tickets or accidents in over 10 years your due and they want to kick you to the curb. In both cases, it didn't make any sense for the rate increase. I think some people just call it inflation and pay because it's difficult to shop and switch insurances. Not me, I have too many vehicles for them to rake me over the coals.
Again good luck. Can you tell I hate insurance companies?
