'99 A4 vs. '11 Camaro
I have a neighbor that I'm convinced is a little insecure. Every time I bring a car home (even junk), he has to buy something too.
Well he saw my new-er '99 A4 and just couldn't take it I guess. Yesterday afternoon he came home with a 400 horse '11 Camaro ss 6.2 auto. I'm not interested in playing any "mine is bigger than yours" games and when we talk, I'm certainly not going to sound like a 16 year old and suggest it but I would like to know from anyone with experience if he would spank me at our local strip.
The local 1/8th mile drag strip is less than a mile away from us. Just wondering if I had a chance against him on a 1/8 mile run. That camaro has to be pretty heavy but I wouldn't think my '99 with 88k miles is not putting anywhere near 345 horses to the pavement any longer. If you've run one with an early C5, holler back.

I want to say yes, vette's will always win... however, there have been a lot of technological changes from 99' to 11' and even if they have close to the same horse power, I'm afraid he might have a good chance of beating you.
With that said, take him to a track and smoke his *** all day long.
"Handles like a Vette" isn't by coincidence, it's because we can corner at the speed of light and keep going. I have driven my sister's 2011 RS Camaro and I thought I was going to flip it into a barrel roll when I took a fast corner.
One thing I always keep in mind is this... His car might be faster, but everyone notices the Corvette before they see yet another Camaro.

Needdlex, I think you are right about the corners. Handling wise, he's toast but on that straight 1/8 mile I'm thinking he'd have me.
Just so anyone knows, I'm not camaro bashing at all. I like the new ones just fine. If they'd put some flip up or roll over lights on it, a bird on the hood and a pontiac badge on the back. I'd buy one!

Depends on your gears. If you have the 2.73 he might have a chance.
If you have the 3.15, you will take him easy. The Camaro is a fat, heavy pig.
I guess there is only one way to find out.

Stick the launch and you'll have it easy. My 2000 Ford Lightning 80k miles 360 HP/440 TQ at the crank ran a
9.1255 @ 79.09 Ford Lightning 2000 - Full Exhaust, Tune, Street Tires
9.1437 @ 81.81 202 Chevy Camaro SS 2010 Full Exhaust - Street Tires
1/8 Mile
Barely beat him in the 1/8 but the truck is 12 years old, 4750lbs with me in it, and a full hour drive to the track so the supercharger was full of heat soak.
1/4 Mile
14.0627 @ 99.24 Ford Lightning
13.6879 @ 108.17
Beat him in the 1/8 Lost in the 1/4
Differenty story. Heavy truck, not even close to aerodynamic, heatsoak and stock intake and pulleys. 425 HP vs 360 HP Camaro wins.
The Camaro had headers, mid pipe, cat back no tune, we did about 3-5 runs in September. Cool owner. You should be able to take the 1/8th easy and the 1/4. I ran a best of 13.2 at 101 that night on Hankooks
Heres the proof

Great information guys. Thanks for the numbers tripleblackvert. When I was a kid I had a stack of tickets from the strip crammed up in the dash but I don't run anymore. Last time I ran was on a turbo sport bike in the late 90's. I ran mid to high 6's three runs and started getting nervous. Have only been back to watch. This vette is a daily and doesn't need the extra stress anyway. That's why I was hoping one of you hard drivin' b*lls of steel vette owners had run a new ss camaro.

you'll win, I beat one on in my 2001 Mustang GT 5.4 swap 270hp/340 TQ at the wheels 3300Lbs, 5 Speed, 4.10 gears. 18" rims with 295/35/18 Goodyear Eagle F1s.
I paid 10,000 for my Vette it takes a 6-13 year newer ~$20,000 more STOCK or pretty close to it Camaro to get near the A4 97-04 in a Straight Line

Way too many camaros on the road. People have super big dick attitude with those cars too act like there SUPER unstoppable. People will appreciate the corvette, people will laugh and think what another chode in the camaro. Super funny they waste 40 grand on a car that cant even compete with a 11 year old corvette. My personal best with my A4 is 12.8 and i beat SRT8 challengers and new 5.0 mustangs, and those are faster then the camaros. They can enjoy there "new muscle" over priced garbage thats not even as fast as a car from the 90s lol.

I always compliment the guys who buy these new cars, I say "It's really nice to see a man behind the wheel of one, is that the V-6 or a V-8?" I get tired of seeing all the Camaro's with the baby seats in the back. You really rock that ride!"

If your car is running good and you can launch the A4 you would have a chance.
The better gears from GM on the A4 are 3.15

The C5 came with the following rear gear ratios:
Vert and Coupe:
Either 2.73 or 3.15 with the A4 tranny
3.42 with the 6-speed manual tranny
Z06 - only came with the 3.42 rear gear ratio.
The higher the number, the better performance you will get from the car.
As to the OP's question - I'd say you should take him if you launch OK. Really only one way to find out though - take it to the track and line them up.

Melting Slicks
Like stated before gearing + tires also matter. I would assume that you both have street tires, so you should be fine here.
The X-Factor here is that his car weighs 3,849lbs (give or take a pound or two) & yours weighs about 3,200lbs. That's more than 600lbs more than your car.
FINAL ANSWER.....You should win either way. Again just my math/opinion, GOOD luck!

Two weeks after I got my 01 A4 3.15's my boss couldn't take it and wanted to line them up. His too was a new loaded Camaro. The other boss in his Carerra S. My ten year old car took them both. Proud of the old girl.

I was heading south to Pierre, SD last year and in my rearview mirror I watched a new Camero pass everyone until he was on my tail (I was alrwady 5 over). He never tried to pass me and stayed there the rest of the way (maybe 20 miles). Scared or maybe just respect.

To me the obvious winner would be the Corvette based on what's already been said: Hp vs. weight balance each other out so that leaves tires and gears. Your car has a better weight bias so you should win the launch unless he has the tires to make up for the difference.
Good luck should you weaken.
