I have a different challenge question which im not sure has ever been asked? Its common to compare Mustangs to Corvettes as far as street race challenges but has anybody out there with a C5Z been challenged/harassed by a standard C5 coupe/vert into a street race and what happened? DUH...

If both cars are stock, drivers being equal, the Z will always win. More hp/less weight.
With all the go fast equipment out there you never know what your up against. If its blown you can hear it but the squirt is stealth. S0 if you get challenged beware. I remember cruising in Indiana one evenning on the way to BG for an anniversary event. Some kid in a Camero SS gen 3 sounded health wanted to engage me. I told him I'd pass wifey in the car as he's ready to move from stop light he purges a little gas from the vent. All I had at the time was a small cam headers. I think I could have been a kill story.
What SORT of Challenge question? If the challenge is on a road course........for which the Z06 was designed and intended, then the Z06 will win. If it's for a drag strip................who cares, because modded means "MODDED", so it's anyone's race with the largest pocketbook

What he said, and that includes all but the newest c6s.
Since the original question was a "C5Z against a standard C5 coupe", both cars would be stock, both drivers being equal, the C5Z would always win. As another posted said, modded is modded and the bigger check book would most likely win.
Once modded, the only advantage the Z has is the 100lbs weight difference and 1-3rd gearing advantage. I ran my buddy's H/C/I C5Z in my H/C/I coupe a few years ago and we were dead even from a 60 roll to 150 roll. He would pull a car on me from a dig.
^ When referring to straight line drag racing. On a road course, the story is entirely different. I've driven stock coupes at the track versus my Z and the difference is incredible. The "Z06" package is a from-the-factory performance package though. Properly modded a coupe could easily be the same or better. Now, with the C6Z, the difference between the Z and base is even more extensive and harder to replicate. Inevitably though, any Corvette can be made to perform at a very high level.
4th Gen Camaro SS? If it was a LS1 SS on the spray, you might have been in trouble...
I ran into one last night, luckily his bottle was empty. He had CAI, tune, full exhaust w/longtubes, and from a roll it was an absolute joke. Guy spent a lot of money to be slow.

but, would you get ANY enjoyment in beating a stock coupe?
For $10K (including the car purchase) one can easily put a LS1 F-body into the 11s and still have it drive like a Honda Accord.
Longtubes/cat-back/CAI/tune/150shot can easily be done for under $3K and will push 480rwhp in a 3400lb car.
Don't know how that is a "lot of money" or "slow"...but I guess everybody's parameters are different.
It only pushes 480whp when the bottle isn't dry, which his was. He'd just run a 14.2 yesterday. Even at altitude, that's got to be a disappointing car to drive. I guess my perspective is a tad skewed though. . . no doubt with a 150 shot I'd of run home with my tail tucked between my legs.

Back in the day I had another buddy with a '99 WS6 TA 6spd. LTs/Tune/LS6 intake/CAI/Cam (236/238), built 12 bolt rear, 4.10s, Slicks and a 125 wet shot. I ran him on the highway with my H/C/I NA setup and pulled him 1/2 car to 130. From a dig, he desecrated me!
On motor he went 12.8s @ 114mph and on the gas he went 10.6s @ 126 on a 125 wet shot. He then upped it to a 150shot and trapped 128-129. Now he's added milled 317 casting LS6 heads. I supposed he's trapping 130+ now.
