Default Who's Running A Monster Level 2?

Just picked up a 2003 Z06, and I'm looking to upgrade the clutch in the near future. Eventually I'll have full bolt on's and a cam. It's gonna see the strip maybe 4-5 times a year. The Monster Level 2 seems to be a good fit, but I don't want to deal with squealing/grinding/chatter. Let me know what you guys think.

I had a Monster on my old Z06. It was a good power holding clutch didnt chatter at all. I bought the early generation, almost when they first came out called the level 3.5. Only downside for me was the stiff pedal. I hear the new generation of clutches are good, but a little pricey. You should be just fine with a level 2 with some cushion.

I have the monster level 2 setup with the lightened fly wheel. Its a very good clutch and it drives perfect! My car is at 473 whp and it has no problems handling it. you will absolutely love it: no chatter, no grinding, no grinding. Quiet like factory and feels almost stock like compared to the LS7 setup I had before.

Look at the McLeod RST and RXT twin discs. Really Really nice clutches, stock feel and will mos def hold your power. I run it on a blown 02Z@550whp with no prob at all.

Don't forget the Tick Adjustable Master!

I also have the Level 2 with light weight flywheel. I have 471/441 to the wheels. Seems to hold my WOT runs very well. The lighter assembly is noticeable to me.

Clutch pedal feels about the same as stock. Clutch engagement is a little closer to the floor (good thing).

I only get a slight shudder in my clutch if I'm on a upward incline and I try to engage the clutch giving it no gas (idle rpm). If I actually engage the clutch giving it some gas there is no shudder. I would not even call it a chatter... maybe a shudder. Its not that bad. It ONLY happens on an upward incline. I just give it a touch of gas and no issues.

I only notice it when I'm trying to sneak in my garage late at night when trying not to wake my wife/son...

If I engage the clutch on a flat surface with no gas (idle rpm), it engages perfectly.

Be sure to get the remote bleeder. Its handy as heck and makes clutch fluid changes easy as pie !

I'm also still running my Stock Master cylinder. No issues here and this clutch eliminated my sticky clutch issue I had with the stock unit.

I have a Monster Level 2, with the chromoly flywheel. I can't comment on pedal feel as I installed a Tick adjustable master at the same time. The clutch behaves like stock for me, just seems a bit grippier. I have yet to experience any chatter or shudder.

In short, I approve. My car is bolt-ons, makes around 390-400 wheel.

I have a Monster Stage 2 w/ the 18lb billet flywheel on my bolt on Z06 and a built M12. Pedal feel is slightly stiffer than stock and it does engage a little closer to the floor than the stock clutch setup. No issues here.

I got my Stage II installed last November after a bunch of research. I had to get my trans built because 3/4th gears and reverse where gone. I went with the light weight flywheel as well like some of the other guys.

I'm very happy with it. It engages a bit closer to the floor (which is a good thing) and doesn't chatter. It shudders a little bit like Toque said, but it's negligible.

The lightweight flywheel means a tad more gas when taking off but it's worth it for the increase in power coming out of a corner and the generally smoother operation at speed.

The clutch started moaning for me about 1000 miles in. It seems to have stopped about 2 weeks ago. It kinda sounds like someone dragging a chair across the floor and only happens from a standing start. I was told this is pretty normal and may or may not go away.

Overall I'm very happy with it. Like I said I built my trans at the same time. I also threw in an RDS Snap shifter and a C6 Shift **** and the difference is amazing, plus it looks great. I highly recommend both of those mods as well.

Now, my disclaimer; If you are going to change your clutch please think very seriously about upgrading your trans. I say this so you save on labor costs. The trans in these cars are not built very well, especially for drag racing. We have plastic shift tabs and aluminum shift forks. I have my stuff upgraded to equal an RPM Stage I trans and I feel very good about it. This is something I HIGHLY recommend for anyone that will be doing work on their Z06's, especially since you'll be going into the back end anyway.

Enjoy your Vette and stay safe brother.

H/C/I 460 rwhp here. Around 12k on the clutch. Still feels exactly the same and is holding the power on the street. It did show signs of slipping on the dyno, but that drum weighs a lot more than a corvette. I logged mph/rpm with hptuners on the street and the line was dead straight indicating no slip.

I would install it again when this one goes. My only complaint is that it is a lot stiffer than stock. I drove a stock clutch car for about an hour then went back to mine and almost stalled LOL. You get used it quick though.

The Best Street Driving and Track use Single Disc Clutch on the market is by far the Mantic 12" Full Face Dual Friction Clutch w/ER2 design...
The Mantic 12"/300mm Single Disc Clutch has ALL the comforts of an OEM clutch, NO Noise, NO CHATTER, Fantastic Drivability and it HOLDS up to 700hp, only weighs in @46lbs Total, PLUS the Ring-Gear is welded to the Flywheel!!!

ER² Design.??? Patented Pressure Plate ER² design. The groove design enhances the performance in 2 ways. Firstly it increases the Torque Capacity of the Cover Assembly by up to 8% and secondly it assists with cooling which in-turn enables the friction material to operate at lower temperatures and therefore at a higher coefficient of friction. Again this enhances the torque capacity of the clutch...

High strength anti burst SG Iron material used for the Pressure Plate. Performance vehicles typically operate at higher RPM than standard vehicles. To ensure there is no possibility of failure of the pressure plate at these high RPMs it has been manufactured from SG or Spheroidal Graphite Iron. This is 3 times stronger than the standard Grey Cast Iron...

I have a monster stage two with mcleod adjustable master, still engages pretty darn close to the floor even with adjustment at max. I will be going with the tick adjustable very soon. As far as the clutch goes I am very happy with it, tad grabby, but quickly adjusted to that.

For anyone considering the Tick adjustable clutch master cylinder do note that it will increase pedal pressure by 15% and the added aftermarket clutch pressure is going to be on top of that. With my Monster stage 1 plus the Tick MC I’m at 20% more pressure over stock. It took a little getting used to but I don’t notice it now. There are others out there that don’t increase pressure as much and don’t have quite as long install but not as good of a unit.

I would say its very close to 2 inches of travel off the floor when it grabs. This makes me a little nervous as I fear the clutch may not be fully engaged when shifting the gears.
