Default How Long do C5 Tire Sensors Last?

I received the DIC error code suggesting I check the tire sensors. I noticed the passenger front sensor is not reading.

Any fixes or do I need to remove the tire in order to repair/replace? I can try the magnet again, however they are over 6 years old.

They usually last longer than six years. Were they replaced 6 yrs ago? The newest C5 is around 8 years old now. If it were me seeing this, I would certainly try retraining and driving the car to see if it read again. In fact, if the car hasn't been driven lately, I'd drive it before I tried retraining to see if it would wake up.

They were installed with my ACE Slick Wheels back in early 2006. The car has been up on stands the majority of the last two months as I've been working the mods, so perhaps it just needs to wake up.

I will try the magnet and see what happens.

Seems they should still work fine after 6 years, the OEMs on my 01 were still working fine when I bought my Z16 rims last month. Since the TPMs were over 11 years old, I went ahead and bought new sensors.

I've always heard 8 to 10 years. I replaced the ones in my 04 a couple of years back when I got the i-Forged Swifts.

I've always read the '97-00 sensors would last 6-8 years, the '01-04 up to 10 years. Obviously there is exceptions to those time frames.

1999 here with 51,000 miles. Have replaced only one, and at that it was a rebuilt (new battery) purchased for $45.00.

'98 with 54k...going strong! I did have the wheels stored for winter wheels about 6 years worth. I assume this would save the batteries?

Since I swapped my wheels/tires, I wonder if the aftermarket wheels came with aftermarket sensors?

Replaced the originals in my '99 in 2009 when I got new tires. The old ones were still working fine. Just did it because the tires were off & guessing time was running out on the batteries in the originals.

It seems OK now. As mentioned, the car was up in stands the majority of the past 2 months while I was busy with mods so I think I just needed to wake it up. It registered the last few drives after the original error code.

How long do they last is like asking how long is a piece of string? LOL, I asked the same question a few years (there abouts) back. My 99's still work, but I am not the original owner so who knows, 100, 000+
