Default Removed my Hood Liner for a "cleaner" look.

Guys:

So I got the itch to remove my hood liner. I never much liked the look of it anyways. Seems to have cleaned up the look under my hood. I have seen other people do it and it looks like more of a "cleaner" look to me.

Its got a little bit of factory marking on it, but for the most part its really clean. Its a dull silver color. No clear coat on it for sure.

I like it !

Toque

That really looks nice.
Have you noticed more engine noise?

Let's see what the heat and a/c compressor spray do to the paint on the top of the hood after a while. If it's like the older cars, it'll start to bubble when the a/c oil soaks in. This will be a good test for anyone else wanting to try it.

Looks good. I've seen some C5s where the owners have applied a clear over the interior to match the exterior paint. They also remove the light/wiring and fill in the plug holes.

I plan to add an embroidered hood liner.

Does the liner protect the top paint from the engine heat?

You got lucky bud! Your paint looks really good on the hood. I have tons of unfinished blue marks under my yellow hood, and it looks like a$$. Definitely better than the hood liner, but looks ghetto. Going to have it painted, holes filled and cleared this summer though!

As far as I know, it's for fire suppression mostly. I'm sure it helps with heat a bit too, but I wasn't worried about removing the liner. With the Z06 screens and the engine bay getting good air while moving (my Z is mostly a highway cruiser, not a DD so it doesn't idle much and get really hot), I'm not worried about the paint. It will be just fine. After driving the Z for a while, I can open the hood and touch the intake and it's cool...barely lukewarm. If the heat would cause the paint to bubble, wouldn't it also affect all the cheap plastic parts under the hood? I'm not sure...

I have actually been wanting to do this for a long time. The reason I haven't done it is that I thought the cabin noise would be a lot louder. Also the poster who expressed concerns about oil spray was a concern also. Toque... any noticeable sound difference inside the cabin?

I'm surprised the paint under there looks that good. I got a used black one off a 99 and it wasn't all that pretty under the insulator. It just had black basecoat with some clear overspray around the edges. It was obvious factory paint. In any case, the guy gave me perfect insulator with it and it's going on with the light ect. A lot of people say a car isn't the same after it's wrecked. I'm out to put it back original as possible and prove em wrong....well the paint will be better

I have a custom LED light setup on mine. I think it would look better without it, but it sure looks cool at night when I lift the hood.

I have not driven it yet with it removed. I'll find out as soon as the sun comes out.

If you knew me personally you would know that my car gets a 6 or so hour detail every week. Top to bottom, inside out etc.... That's not even including the weekends I remove the wheels and Polish them, and Zaino the paint. Thanks for the heads up though. I will be sure to be on the look out for any oils from the a/c compressor. Simple green works wonders for that.

With all the aftermarket hoods on here with no liner I think I would have heard of a complaint in the last 12 years I have been surfing the C5 forum. Your the first I have heard mention it so far.

I see so many aftermarket hoods that are completley finished on the underside. Its something I may consider in the future.

Not sure.... I guess I will find out. I usually leave the hood cracked open in my garage anyways. All the aftermarket hoods with no liners don't seem to have issues that I have heard.

Post pics ! I'll bet that will look sweet !

It does look good... I removed my liner a couple of years ago, I did add some decals to the underside, but haven't noticed any difference in the paint, or, decals peeling off, and it gets hot as hell down here. I haven't noticed any "oil spray," or noise increase.
