I was wondering if any of you have used a product called Wetter Water
or other products that would bring your temperature down in a C5. Also is it worth changing out a 180 degree thermostat to a 160 degree. I have cleaned out all the trash in the fins and it did help but would like to run a little cooler. Thanks for any comments.

Many threads and many opinions on this subject.

I would suggest not installing a lower temp stat unless you have had the car tuned and the program requires the fans turning on sooner. That's what I did.

Dexcool 50/50 is what is recommended and that's what I use for a coolant. No problems with Florida summers.

Water Wetter does work, but only marginally so. Don't expect more than few degrees difference.

Water wetter is a crappy band aid. Find out why it's overheating. Gotta be something else.

Before convincing yourself that you have a problem, let's determine whether or not you do in fact have a problem.

These cars typically run anywhere between 195-220 degrees and that is where they are intended to run by the factory. Many of us are more old school and are not really comfortable with these temp. ranges (myself included). However, it is the normal range.

A couple of remedies have been mentioned already, such as reprogramming the temps at which the cooling fans turn on which is one of my favorites, but you need to decide what you want for your car.

You really need to find out why the temps are too high, if that is the case.

Mine always runs at 195/220. In stop and go traffic it goes up to 235 which always scares the crap out of me until the fans kick on and it cools back down. They are indeed made to run hot. I believe it's a smog thing.

With this also I have a 160 deg. stat I have a very clean system and all works well I live where it gets 100+ and have had issues with temps in the 235-250 with A/C on found my issues fixed them. I still added W.W. to all my cars / trucks It helps keep temps down but find your underlinning issue first Band-aids dont work good luck and let us know what you find out.

Default I've use that stuff

I bough a bottle of water wetter from Redline, but don't know the exact product name. It worked as stated, made the cooling more efficient, and the car runs slightly cooler. I"d try and tell you a figure, but have yet to spend enough time to find the logic of my temperature markings. Perhaps three to five degrees? Decrease in temp.

I haven't had my car that long, and have never heard the fans come on.

I was a little concerned , but at least I now know an approximate heat range for normal engines. The car runs out ok, but I would like to know if the fans work.
