Default Radio stays one when door is opend = dead battery

I tried to start my car after two weeks, but found out that my battery had gone dead. Not thinking much about as I felt this battery was weak any way, gave it a jump drove it 30 minutes to work and started looking for a new battery. By my lunch break it had gone dead again, this is when I started suspecting other problems, and there is was opened the door and the radio kept playing.

Later that night after getting it jumped AGAIN I noticed that after the ride home the voltage had come back up to 12V per the DIC without the motor running. I ate dinner and went back out (now dark) and checked the voltage it was down to like 11.7-11.2.

When I turned the key to off the dash lights stayed on for a little then they went off and I got the "Security" light, but the lights in the door switches stayed on, they took a good 3-4 minutes to go out.

Once all the interior lights were out and the radio face plate was removed I could hear a fan running in the aftermarket radio. This radio is pretty fancy, it has a back up camera, GPS, all speakers are amped and only line level, so there is a billion miles of spaghetti behind the panel.

When the doors is opened I am getting a "door ajar" message

Once I sorted out what all the wires were for, I found a two interesting things, 1st was the installer tapped the cig lighter for the turn on line and two there was this strange "Access" box, I took it apart.

Inside the "access" mystery box

The Harness adapter

I have the battery on the charger @ 2A , hoping that running it flat 4 times in a row didn't kill it. When it's charged up I plan to see if the car is telling the radio to stay on, or this strange box is, or the head unit is going haywire.

If this is a common issue I wanted to post here to get some help before I tear into something I don't need to, I did read that this could be cause by a window valet, but I am not sure how to see if I have one of them. The rest of the search results didn't seem to match my problem.

Thanks in advance for any help!

I can't help you there, but you might do better posting it in the audio section...

your problem is the Metra harness
Get rid of this and replace it with this
http://shop.doubledmods.com/searchqu...ords=roem-vet1
We do not use the Metra harness with our install packages due to this well known issue

Yes everything appears to be amped, I bought this car like this. Please explain why I am using the wrong harness. What harness should I use?

I assume this would be the harness I would want to use?

Assuming the radio turned off when the door was opened before your battery died the first time.

Try resetting the radio adapter.

Pull the radio fuse then put it back in (Alternatively unhook battery).
Turn ignition to on for 30 seconds. (do not turn radio on)
Turn ignition off.

Radio should work better now. Turn ignition to Acc to test. Turn radio on. And it should go off when you take the key off and the door is opened.

That harness is mainly used to retain the stock speakers
You need a standard GM harness is all.
You will not retain RAP which is your problem now
this is what you need

Thanks for the help, very kind of you. If I was closer I would buy you a beer. I think for now I will "reset" it for trouble shooting purposes. If my problems go away then I know I need to get a new harness. Chances are I will just let it go till I come out to find a dead battery again lol.

I can relate, I love beer so much I decided to start making it a decade or so ago, I make 15 gallons at a time!

Here is a 10 gallon batch brewing up in the garage

Well I did some more trouble shooting tonight, buttoned everything back up leaving the trim pieces out and fired it up, turned the radio on and shut her down, pulled the key, opened the door and the radio kept playing. I had the battery out of the car on the trickle charger for 24 hours, so I know the Axxess POS had time to reset or what ever. Fired the car up again two more times trying to see the order and time for various electronics to turn off, on the last attempt to start the car it was real slow and the voltage was down to 11.1, so it looks like I fried this battery.

Here is what I noticed, please let me know if this changes any opinions on the harness being the culprit.

Turn the car on with radio playing, then shut it off and remove the key --> radio says on --> dash lights and door switch lights stay on --> I open the door --> interior lights come on & dash light get bright --> I shut the door --> dash and interior lights go out in 20-30 seconds --> door switch lights go out after 1 minute --> radio continues to play.

Things I learned:
  1. Front, rear and sub sound stages are all RCAs into some tiny sony amps under the passenger side.
  2. The back up camera stopped working all wires were present, hoping it's a setting.
  3. My battery is defiantly due for a replacement

I am trying to avoid hacking up the harness thats installed if the problems lies in the car. I suppose I could just eliminate that box and tap a switched source and see what happens. For tonight I left it bur removed the radio, I will see if the battery goes flat tomorrow.

Are there any easy places to turn the HU on the ignition near the HU?

Thanks again for any help!

Thanks to Gigdy & Double D Mods I got this sorted out.

That box was in fact the culprit, I cut the red switched wire to the HU and wired it to number 22 in the fuse box. Left it sit for two days and it fired up on the 3rd with no problems.

Thanks again!
