C5 Z06 info (Questions) -Newb
Im looking into getting a Z06 vette but am not to familiar with the little things with the cars
im looking for a C5 corvette z06 and im wondering if anyone would give me the low down on the Z06's from 01-03
what engine do they have(is it the 5.7 or the 6.0), whats the differences between a normal c5 and a Z06 etc etc
what does Z06 stand for. any info that i can obtain is highly appreciated !!
Thanks

The C5 Z06 has the 5.7 L in it. I have a number of files that talk about the C5 cars and if you'd like a copy, just PM me your e-mail address.
Meanwhile, these files might get you started.

it seems to me that for the buyer i am, buying a Z06 isnt worth it, what is the difference in HP ratins between the two motors ?
i am planning to build a street car, so regardless, between the z06 and just the basic c5 coupe. i will be building either one. so the z06 seems like a waste of money to me now.
ill be able to be just as fast and faster with basically the same exact car with a big price difference when it comes to purchasing one. opposed to be purchasing a mid mileage z06 instead of low mileage c5 coupe
my price range is 15-20k. opinions welcomed !!
Thanks

if you're spending 20 you can get nice early c6's as well, also a thought
the z06 is a lot more car stock vs stock. engine is more responsive and it's about half a second faster in the 1/4 mile and more so on the road course. you have a lot of little things in the Z along with the ability to run stock in autocross. in most cities modded cars boot you into unlimited.
if you're modding the hell out of the car it doesn't matter which you start with. many improvements in the c5 are from 2001 onward. if you get a c5 i would try and stay 2001+ unless you get a smoking deal

well i mean, from looking around constantly for Z06 vettes in the 01-03 range , the price doesnt seem to steady, its jumps all around. can some one give me a fair price for an 01 vette with roughly 40-50 thousand miles

It's pretty easy to add most of the things that a Z06 has except the transmission gear ratios. My C5 coupe has an upgraded engine, C5 Z06 titanium catback, and C6 Z51 sways and C6 Z06 shocks, so performance isn't an issue.
Some folks just like the hardtop and some like the ability to take the roof panel off. I like both. YMMV.
Good luck.

Take it from me. Never rush into buying a car. That's how you get screwed or stuck with a crap car. Take your time. Test drive as many as you can.
I've owned a '98 base coupe and sold it for an '02 Z06. Basically the whole feel of the car is different. The ride is better, there's obviously more power, the handling is better, yadda yadda yadda. I do, however, miss having the ability to remove the roof panel (since the Z has a fixed roof).
Money-wise, for what you want, I'd say go with an 01+ coupe, and with the money you'll save not buying a Z, you could do a few mods and make it what you want.
Personally, I have always wanted a Z06. And had I waited and saved a little more money instead of rushing into buying my '98 (yes, I settled to "save money"), it would have saved me money and a hell of a lot of trouble. Ugh, I can't count how many times I saw the "Reduced Engine Power" message and dealt with bucking and surging issues. Damn car.
P.S. I paid $16,500 for my '98 (65K mi) in 2010. And in early 2011, I bought my Z06 (28K mi) for $24K. Nothing like finally getting what you've always wanted.
