Default sold my old H pipe for scrap

After installing new Kook's headers I knew that the old H pipe and manifolds would never go back on the car. I saved the manifolds in the shop attic but the H pipe was in the way and no one wanted it. Shipping would cost more than the pipe could be sold for. So I cut the cats off the old H pipe (it's an '01Z so it had 2 small and 2 medium). I called a scrap dealer and was told that the small ones were worth $15 each and the medium ones were $25 each. I didn't feel so bad about getting this pipe out of the way for $80. Just happened to see a cat convertor recycle company on the way to the scrap yard so I decided to see if it was my while to sell them to this company. An employee looked at them and said they may be worth $150 for everything. After the personal ID and photo session I was given an invoice for $169. They will mail the check in 3 days. (new county law on certain scrap items). They didn't want the H pipe tubing but offered to throw it away for me. Not a bad deal.

Nothing like the smell of unburnt fuel in the morning.

That was a good deal. And good for you for recycling the converters.

Definitely. They're not doing this to save the planet. They recycle cats for their precious metal value. Palladium is selling for around $500 an ounce and platinum is going for almost $1600 an ounce. So, yeah, $169 sounds about right.

I talked to a scrap collector in my city who makes a living off finding metal junk and old cats. Cats are worth good coin because they contain precious metals like platinum...interesting way to make a living but it works for some I suppose.

Any idea if the stock exhaust would be worth anything as scrap?

Probably not much...only pennies really. A whole car may fetch 200$ max
