First - I don't have one but Gene is advertising one at GMpartshouse this month and I’m tempted.
I didn’t find any pictures of them on his site but after doing a little searching on the net I did find a grainy picture and it appears that there is clear plastic covering the running lights area. Obviously the brake duct opening is open for air movement. I have a ram air intake so if I buy this I will have to remove the clear plastic that covers it.
Is this a problem with how the bra handles – will it flap around and cause damage?
I guess I am confused..the plastic over the lights won't affect anything to do with air flow..are you asking about the part that covers the license plate?
as for the bra in general I have had 2...they fit very well and I throw mine in the washer and air dry it....

HUMMM - not talking about the license plate hole - but the running lights/turn signal opening. Since I have a ram air system, this is my ONLY intake for combustion air. It appears that there is a layer of plastic protecting this area - similar to the license plate hole.
Is this the case and if so is there any ramifications to removing it - in effect - flapping issues?

The Z06 bra had no plastic but extra holders in the opening area.
With the screens you may be able to do something to make it work.
Maybe a series of 1 1/2" diameter holes in the clear plastic?
They no longer make the GM bra for the Z06 but maybe you could find one used here on the forum. Otherwise, I too think it would flap if you just cut the plastic out.

I have one , brand new , came with the car. Never had it on because I've heard over and over again they do more damage to the paint than they are worth. Road grit gets in between and vibrates or flaps etc.
You guys have obviously used them a lot , what's your experience ? Any rubbing damage ?
I've been using one for the past couple of months and I think they are definitely worth it. I only use it for highway trips and I clean it when I take it off so no grit is between it and the paint. I also put wax on the nose before putting it on for good measure.

Here's a good pic for ya. To answer your question the bra does not move at all. It's an extremely tight fit and won't cause any damage. Just put a good coat of wax on the nose and install. That's it. I think it's the best bra you can get for your C5.

Was this a "non" Z06 bra that you removed the plastic away from the DLRs?

used them for years on my 99 and her 02...tons of road trips, rain etc...no damage...but absolutely prevented damage
I cut the window out of mine up to the turn signal using a glass upside down as a guide. This provided a rounded cut so that the clear vinyl would not tear in the corners. So far no problem.

Ok so I checked in the shop and the one I have is from Mid America although the inside of it does not seem as soft as I would exspect. Certainly not as soft as say a micro fibe towel or flanel rag . Is it considered a good quality item . Seems well made .

I had the factory one on my Z; it came with the plastic windows, and I just cut it out. Great, tight fit, and it looked OK, too. I took it off after about a month because it was a PITA to detail around, and didn't look as good as the real car. I think I still have it if you want it. Wait... I remember it had fittings that some of which, were discarded when I made later mods; so it would be w/o hardware.
On a purely editorial opinion; without a doubt, the bra is a good thing to protect the nose of the C5, but for me, not worth the hassle/looks. And when you consider; the mere presence of the bra is to protect the surface from cosmetic damage, while it's at the same time, causing the same thing.

No, the plastic is still on there. You might be able to get away with removing the plastic because the fit is so tight, but the only way to know for sure is to try.
