Default Help on MGS Short Shifter Mod

Hi All:
I have a 2001 convertible and I am going to replace the OEM shifter with MGW's short shifter. In MGW's installation video they recommend replacing the OEM lower shifter box and give GM part number 2582-3572 as the correct part to use. However, when I went to order the part from one of our vendors, GMPartsDirect, they stated they could not find this part listed for my VIN number and instead recommended GM part #10331311 Manual Transmission Control as the correct part - it's also twice the price of the part number MGW lists and GMPartsDirect says if they can't confirm the part, I can't return it if it's the wrong one.

Has anyone completed this conversion using the MGW shifter and also replacing the lower shifter box (GM part number 2582-3572) that MGW recommends? Or is the other number the correct one? Which part did you use?

Thanks very much for any help; you can PM or relpy here.

Charles

I installed mine w/o the part you mentioned and drove it that way for 2 years. I was never really happy with the effort it took to shift to the left of right side of the pattern. I did the anti-venom mod last fall and couldn't be happier.

You can read about it here:

Hi,
In the MGW write up they state that the bushings and the seal are the issue, the bushings alone are sold by
Corvette Central part #535109 <10 bucks (vibration damping)
Rockauto sells the seals or 12455028 inner < 11 bucks. Really a dust seal on the shaft into the shifter box.
These are the only real wear items ...hth's

Get this one. Replaced mine when I did the MGW install. You won't have any issues. The part number they gave you was for 1997-2004 models. The part number above is for the 2005-2013 models. Literally a drop in replacement. No issues whatsoever.

I installed the MGW shifter on my 2000, and ordered the shift box with the part number they gave from GMpartswharehouse. I didn't have any issues at all...

Thought the shifter box I recieved had the C6 style shifter on it. Wasn't a big deal since the lower box is the exact same and I wasnt going to use that shifter anyway.
