Default About to drive 2 hours to buy this car, Should I? 1997 for 14K

I have been on the hunt for a Corvette ever since I sold my 2004 GTO. I have been looking at a few C5's and C6's in my under 20k price range.
I found this 1997 M6 coupe for 14k and it caught my eye. It was the color I wanted, Red, M6, and even a targa top. Yet the age of the car as well as being the first year of product has me a little scared.
Should I hold out and get something better? Or jump on this one if it is really clean?
Car specs

1997, Red, M6, 75k miles, clean car fax
$14,000 Good Price?

**** no. that's way too much for a 75k mile 97. if he'll take 10 cool, if not spend 15 on an 01+

here's a 54k mile 2004 with an ask of 16.5 that hasn't sold for months

http://seattle.craigslist.org/oly/cto/3609795568.html

even if you paid full price, anyone and i mean anyone that knows c5's would gladly pay 2500 if they could zap their 97-98 car into a 2004

if you live in cali that 04 i posted is an easy 2 day drive as well, fly into seatac and make a road trip of it

Agree with these guys... That is a rip off, their hard to find at a decent price because so many people put the miles on them and expected their vehicle to remain an "investment". Or they build a bond with the car and don't want to sell.

Look for a 2001+ for $15-18k, well within your budget.

nother 01 in his state on the same site for the same price as that 97

http://www.cars.com/go/search/detail...C=BYSpdB728dyb

no idea on the mileage but the seats aren't worn too bad which is a good indicator of really high mileage. even a 6spd too.

Pass, no BSM.

(Agree, $14K is a bit too high)

Be patient and keep an eye on the "C5s For Sale" here on the forum. Consider buying from a private party, there are a lot better deals to be had at more reasonable prices.

I sold my 01 convertible with 53400 miles for $17000.

$14000 seems high for a 97.

I'll take you up on your offer for the carfax report.

You should be able to get into a newer car than a '97 for $14K. Keep looking or offer the seller a lot less money for that one.

Ps. Don't listen to the nay Sayers about the 97-98 vettes being bad plenty of guys on here have them and never had a problem there's more guys on here with the newer ones with problems but there all the same

It's not to say 97-98's are bad, but 2001+ are better. That is a fact, and there is no arguing that. For a small premium of, say, 2 or 3 grand, there is no doubt a 2001+ is a better buy in the long run. The lack of an EBCM fix alone would steer me away from a 97-00. My 2 cents.

Fact: 97-00 EBCMs cannot be fixed.
Fact: 01-04 EBCMs can be fixed.

Being the mid-cycle refresh, the 2001 model year also included a lot of updates.

I could see $12~13K if the car was in clean nice condition. This one is not. You can do much better for the $14K.

What you said is 100% true but still doesn't prove that they are better I've seen more ground problems in the later models more Ldm-rdcm problems
More rocking seat problems bottom line there all the same no different at all until gm says it it's not a fact
The only fact is the older the car the more susceptible to problems but that's with anything
