I wonder if everyone has the impression that all of California has a smog problem. 95% of the state is smog free, with beautiful mountains, expansive forests, and vast fertile valleys. Even Los Angeles is smog-free in the beach cities..........I have to admit the remainder of it does suffer horrendous choking brown smog........ but not year-round, otherwise you would not be able to take pictures like this...........

Smog checks are a sore subject here. My s/c 2002 failed the 2500 rpm test. $900 later, it passed smog. Up here in Northern Calif. the weather is fantastic. Remove the liberals, and this state would be the perfect place to live. Unfortunately we conservatives are a minority, so we must vote with our feet. Oregon, Montana, Texas, North Dakota, Wyoming, all are possible locations.

I enjoy living here and am a native.
My rant is solely based on the Calif. government making a big deal about how AB2289 was gonna make smog inspection easier and was in effect as of Jan 1.
They didn't tell anyone about not implementing it or post it anywhere.

The nice thing about Cali. is I just smogged my 2k vette for the last time I bought 40 acre's in El Dorado County and now with my car reg. their the smog law is Basic meaning I only need to smog my cars when I sell them or when I buy one how sweet is that. I am having the baddest cam installed very soon. I also have 2 homes in the S.F. Bay area and one in Modesto I can live in these and still not have to smog.

Disagree. California is one of the largest agriculture producers in the US. And that's not counting the marijuana crops. That plus the Pacific, the Sierras, the giant redwoods, Lassen and Yosemite and Sequoia NPs, and some of the finest tree lined two lanes anywhere combined with all year weather driving conditions make it great state to live in.

This kind of/sort of explains the delay:
http://www.timesheraldonline.com/car...igate-new-smog
I also read where BAR objected to the plug and pass/fail as they had seen OBDII cars that "passed" that should not have.
(I heard this was BS, the real reason was the smog shops were pissed they had to buy dynos)
My big gripe is that most states will allow one to pass if the car passes emissions testing (tail pipe sniff), even if the cat efficiency or evap test have not run.
These tests require "drive cycles" to run and may not for a very long time or never if you store the car (or modified the exhaust).
http://www.obdii.com/drivecycle.html
Calif will fail you if one of these tests does not complete.
Here is a interesting bit of info:
If you have long tube headers, the cat efficiency test will never run and because this test doesn't run, the evap test won't run as that dumps gas vapor into the engine for burn off (protect the cat).

Very wise decision! Moved here from NV about a year ago for the wife's benefit. Our car insurance a little more than doubled, and that's with the same company! We're on the North Coast and it is very nice up here, but I've gotta get outa here!

This thread was posted as a "heads up" warning to others who thought that they could stick all their non CARB stuff back on their car and just have to pass the OBDII test because of AB2289.
My maggie has a CARB sticker and that was all that concerned Mr. Smogman.

Very intelligent commentary. The next time you eat a steak or hamburger, thank the “QUEER“ who probably raised and got the steer to market. (Yea, I know, not all beef comes from TX)
Have to go now, to call my son (22 years Navy) who lives in TX. Need to ask him if he‘s QUEER. GRT‘
PS: And then there is that “well thought out” handle “Blitzkrieg.”

Guess I will just stay in the Sunshine State. Weather is fine, no smog checks, no state income tax, no Jerry Brown, and I get to enjoy both my hobbies, the Vette and shooting with no hassles from the state. Florida is just fine with me, but I respect everyones choice to live where they find their own paradise.
