Default Question Those who own Radioflyer's Bi-xenon ACA headlights

There has been a lot of interest about trying to get the high beam halogen bulb to match the color of the projector. Color-matching halogen bulbs is difficult to say the least.

I've been looking into an LED bulb replacement. The LED bulbs I'm looking at would be 11-25w up to 75% as bright as a standard halogen bulb and just as bright as a blue-filtered bulb. These would effectively color match 5000-6000K.

Granted even today's LED bulbs aren't as powerful as a halogen bulb, but given the high beam is use for signaling purposes more than increasing driver's visibility, output is not critical.

Is this something you would be interested in?

I'd have to do the math, comparing "75% leds" against dimmed down (color matched) halogens. I do hate the yellow contrast, especially since both his and lows now run concurrently.

It's a lot of math. I have yet to see a halogen bulb match 6000K and still produce a significant amount of light. LEDs don't waste light with a filter, but their biggest hurdle is effectively using the reflector.

I'd say it's about an even trade off for overall output. The LED provides instant-on, a more pure color and significantly longer life.

Yes, I'd be interested. I agree w/ the fact that high beams are used a bit for additional light, but mainly just for signaling. So I think that if the output was a little less, it wouldn't be significant enough. Both headlights relatively the same color would be best in my opinion, I personally don't like when looking at the them I see two different colors. Lol, that is actually one (minor) reason that I've been hesitant on upgrading to these, the different color appearance... crazy of me I know. Thanks for your help/ideas.

It would depend on the cost and how easy it would be to exchange the bulbs.

I won't have the prototype until a few weeks from now.

I can make them fit, but I'm not certain how well the optics will perform. I will have to run some tests.

Tell that to Audi, the R8 has fantastic Led headlights, and the R15 Le Mans cars have gotten named by competitors as blinding they are so bright...and light up the Mulsanne much further and better than any other race car ever. All LED...

That said I could see how those bulbs might not be available to you....

There's 2 parts to the LED equation: Bulbs and Housing. Light from even the brightest bulb needs to be correctly focused to be a bright DRL....much less a headlight. These housings are typically vehicle specific and trying to incorporate these into other designs is very difficult especially in the bolt-on kits I provide.

Absolutely! Just your quote was misleading. Check out the latest C&D on the feature on the new S Class headlights. The Low & High beams use 56 LED's with a motorized mask that shapes the light depending on traffic, has infrared lights to light up objects ahead, LED Foglamps, Led turn Signals, LED Corner lamps and LED Running lamps...all this in the one housing. Slick and $$$$$$!

this sure sounds great because that's the one thing i hate about the HIDs on my truck - that the highs are more yeller. i actually just threw them stupid blue bulbs in (since i already had a set i removed from the vette when i bought it) just to get it close even though it's significantly less light.

this was my biggest peeve in preparation for the HID swap for my car's ACAs.
hmm... we'll see how your idea turns out

I assume you're talking about a second bi-xenon projector in each headlamp? (similar to the Hypervision package on the SLC V2 kit)
