Callaway Honker cold air intake, worth about 11rwhp on an otherwise stock c5Z.

Congrats!! As far as a CAI is considered, if money isnt an issue, buy any intake that ingests cold outside air. If you want to save some bucks get a Blackwing (used usually about $100-150) and modify the shroud for cold air. Ive got the IceBox as you see here and it makes the intake ingest alot more air. But if you go with the Blackwing used and modified shroud, shouldnt cost you more than $150 and a couple hrs on a Saturday. Just another option my friend.

Did you have to cut anything on your factory parts to make the vararam work?

Don't mean to still your thread here.I always had a question is there gonna be an issue with a water ( while driving trough the rain ) getting into your intake when u cut a hole out in the radiator shroud where the filter is.

No water issues, zero, nada. I've had the shroud modified for about 6 yrs now, driving through rainy conditions, including sideways rain, no problem. Remember, the Honker, Vortex Rammer, Hurricane, MTI systems, all require a hole in the shroud, if not the intake is going to ingest a lot of hot engine air, which causes power loss, pinging, etc. Many members here on the forum have shroud mod with no problem. It's a cheap DIY project with all the benefits of expensive CAI systems.

with a c5 you don't have to cut anything, with a c6 you do.

it is designed to shed any water naturally unless you drive it in a flood

Installed the Vararam air system in my C5 Z06. Tight fits, but no cutting. Engine runs great at speed (had it on the track at 130). Problem with below 2000 RPM. Engine can buck and stumble. Threw codes that indicated both engine banks lean. Called tech support at Vararam and was told that the problem is actually engine rich (exhaust looks rich/black). Now bought a Diablo Sports Trinity tuner. Installed the Diablo GM custom tune. More power, but still have low speed stumble. Bought tuner from Diablew Tune and Lew (Forum sponsor) will be building a custom tune or tunes and hopefully I'll get full benefit of the ram air.

Cold air intake is the cheapest hp you can get on these cars. After that the cost/hp goes up significantly.

I had a Vararam and after the install, everytime it rained or I washed the car the check engine light would stay on for a few days. Had good power but wasnt worth the hastle of water tripping the mass air flow sensor code. Alsa would throw lean bank codes like Ngineer stated above.

It is a thread on here somewhere. Probably could find it with a search.

I went with a Volant myself. The biggest problem with the stock intake is that it is designed to pick up most of its air off the radiator shroud area, which is hot. Anything that gets you away from that will be a help in the intake air temps as far as I can see.
