Default Help!!!

Hello guys, im new in the forum and im from mexico, in advance i apologize if i mispelled or my english is a little bad, i have bought a corvette 98 and recently i parked it and i cant just make it start anymore, i got a message on the display that says "check column lock" (the best translation i can occur hehehe) and another detail is that recently the little button on my key got loose, i found it and put back again, any of those details are key for my misfortune?? i need all the help i can get because i want to take it to the mechanic knowing exactly what to ask to be checked, i dont want to be ripped off for something minor that perhaps i can even fix. Thanks in advance...

Robert, I'm from Mexico too, and parts for Corvettes aren't readily available down there. I know from experience hehe, and very few, and I mean few, people know of the parts or of the car.

.
Translating...
.
The first thing you need to do is to make sure you have full current and that your battery is in good conditions. Now, once you have a full battery jerk the steering wheel from side to side with the key in the "ON" position, and that helps get loose/unstuck the column lock actuator. Generally, you will have to buy a "column Lock Bypass," for the steering wheel, and I doubt you will find it in Mexico. This will keep the steering wheel free, per say it will not lock the steering wheel in place when you turn off the car. Now, this part fails in almost all of the older Coverttes, and if it does get stuck in the OFF position where you cannot move your steering wheel you will be stuck wherever you are. I'm from Guanajuato.

Hey, much appreciated for the quick answer guys.

welcome to our home Capeta... I had the same thing happen to me also...scarey too... I disconnected and charged my battery fully..then reconnected and it was fine.. (quick fix) If you let the car sit long periods the battery will drain...I use a battery tender type charger to keep it topped off now..If I drive it on a sat. or sunday By wed. I'll reconnect the charger even after having the locking pin removed..Best of luck to you my friend,,,enjoy your vette,, it's a lot of fun to drive..
