Default Gas smell

I have a 2004 Z06 and its getting this strong gas smell around the car, but none inside the cabin.
When I park my car in the garage overnight, the smell is overpowering. Smell seems like it is coming from the fill spout. Also tried replacing the gas cap, and it still smells.

Anyone had this problem before?

Yup, factory recall, had this repaired on my 04 Z16 a year or so ago. All is well now. Shop around for dealers with a good Corvette guy. Should cost you nothing but time....

They're full of it.. Do some digging around on here. Recall seeing an extension on warranty work for cracked filler necks on the 04's.

It's not a recall...it's a TSB:

SPECIAL COVERAGE

Bulletin No.: 10150

Date: August 13, 2010

Subject: 10150 - Special Coverage Adjustment - Fuel Tank Quick Connector Leak

Models:
2004 Cadillac XLR
2004 Chevrolet Corvette

Condition

Some 2004 model year Cadillac XLR and Chevrolet Corvette vehicles may have a fuel tank leak at the quick connectors that are used to link the left and right fuel tanks. The customer may notice a fuel odor while the vehicle is being refueled, driven, or after it is parked. If the leak becomes large enough, a small amount of fuel may be observed dripping on the ground. The leak may also result in a diagnostic code being set and the illumination of the Check Engine light on the instrument cluster.

Special Coverage Adjustment

This special coverage covers the condition described above for a period of 10 years or 100,000 miles (160,000 km), whichever occurs first, from the date the vehicle was originally [...

My 2004 z06 was having the same problem. After taking it to 2 different dealerships and being told the same thing.... They do not know of any recall( it is classified as a service bulletin)and
that they would be happy to check it out and they would be charging regular service rates. I declined and after a few calls to chevys costumer service 1800 222 1020. The lady in that division made a call to my local dealership and my car was looked at and repaired for free. The only catch was if it wasnt related to the crossover tube bulletin I would cover the cost. I got lucky. Your vin number will tell you if you fall under the bulletin. Wish I could rember the ladys name that helped me it was 3 years ago

So get back to us on this, what did you find out? Is the dealer informed now and taking care of it?

Default 2007 with gas smell

I have an 07 and I have the same gas smell in my cab. It's even worse after I just fill up. I took it to the dealer once and they said it was just the fuel filter and changed it out, but I still have the smell now and am not sure what the issue is.

My son just got his Z16 back from the dealer last Wednesday. Tanks replaced by GM under extended warranty. Total bill was around $3600.

Also, would this not also affect late 03 cars with the new fuel system? Or did they change things further for MY2004?

I sure hope you didn't pay to have that done. The fuel filter is in the tank...it's part of the fuel pump. I highly doubt they changed the pump. You may have been duped

I get the same smell if I top off the car. Its just a habit but i no longer do it in the corvette and it cuts down on the smell. If you have the smell even at 1/2 tank and the smell is constant then id check the fuel filter and all associated lines going from the fill tank spout to the tank and fuel pumps as some have found them leaking.
