Default Horn Replacement?

My horn has been sounding pretty sickly lately. Is the OEM horn a 2-tone horn? What's the deal on horn replacement—any point in replacing with OEM, or should I just get one of those loud-*** aftermarket horns like from Wolo? How hard is it to get at the horn? TIA!

Just my personal preference, but I would go with the OEM horn. It is plenty loud enough to get someone's attention.

Pull the headlight bucket and they are right in front of you, on the passenger side. An hour start to finish.

Ask me how I know......lol

You can do it from under the car without removing the headlight quite easily. Remove the passenger front lower trim piece (a few 7mm bolts) and a 13 or 15mm for the horn bracket itself, one connector, and it's out.

20 minutes tops.

the horns sometimes corrode up and can be revived with use. I read that in a helpful post here. I would suppose a little cleaning would also free up a stuck aluminum membrane.

I sprung for fresh new ones, but I suspect I may also need a new membrane switch in the steering wheel. Super glad a replacement switch is now on the market, because the do it your self switch posted here, scrounged from blood pressure cuffs or whatever, looked a little doubtful that I could build and instal the thing correctly on the first try. not that glad that the broken switch is a common enough problem that it can support an aftermarket need, or that GM doesn't support the need.

If you go for a horn repair in the steering wheel be sure to ask in advance about what is required. I had a stealership insist that they had to replace my perfectly good airbag with a new airbag to work with the new horn parts. They quoted me $1500.00 for the horn repair. After some heated back and forth with liberal use of profanities on my part in front of other customers they finally advised they could do the repair without the new airbag. Beware the stealership! Just saying!

I would just replace. I had air horns on my escalade but probably would not go with those on a corvette.
