Default Looking for a C5

Hey guys, I'm in the market for a C5. I'm coming out of the Mitsubishi world, played with a ton of 4 banger turbo cars and I'm ready to evolve into the domestic world (guess I'm growing up).

I read the sticky about buying a C5 and they seem like they're pretty reliable cars. If I can find a Z06 reasonable I'll go for it, but as of now I'm looking to spend 15k-ish.

Anyhow, how do you guys like your cars? I was astounded when I found out how good gas mileage people were getting from them. Any other things to look out for besides the ABS not working or the steering column locking up?

I live up north, so I'll probably fly down South to buy it and bring it home. New England cars look like **** after a few years of being up here. Even a garage queen

There is lots of info in that sticky you mention on what the common problems are with the C5 and what to look for when checking out a car (Checklist for Buying a Corvette). Best of luck finding just the right car for you.

You are gonna ask yourself why it took you so long to get a C5? I am a Mopar guy but like all cars and recently sold one om my Road Runners to buy a C5 and could not be happier, just seems the C5 gets driven A LOT! with all the creature comforts, handling and mileage you won't be disappointed. Happy Hunting!

Thanks guys.

One thing I keep hearing is people complaining about the interiors being cheap. Do you guys take any merit in that?

I feel the same way. I LOVE my mitsus, I've got a stroked 4g63 with a big GT35 on it. The car makes a TON of power, but it's CONSTANTLY breaking things. I'm on my 3rd transmission :/

I've been looking at Evo's too, but I generally find that the Corvettes are owned by people who don't put a lot of miles on them and take very good care of them. Evo's are usually beat on and have a lot more mileage in my price range.

Do any of you guys use the Vette as your daily? I have an F150 for the snow, but plan on using the Vette for the majority of the year. With the great MPG's, and obviously the power-factor, I think it's perfect for me. Plus the LS-1's and 6's seem to be bombproof. My buddy is LS crazy and has been pushing me to buy an LS powered car for a while now. Says they "make power by accident"

Default Seats are not exactly supportive....

If you are used to seats in an EVO, you won't be thrilled with the OEM seats in a C5. However, there are aftermarket seats out there that are much, much better. Other than the OEM seats, the interior is just fine, IMO.

I went to the San Diego International Auto Show, today. Mitsubishi was there, but none of their vehicles had a factory sticker on it. When I inquired about the price for an EVO, the girl said "Oh, about $30K". I just shook my head and walked away.

The recaros in the Evos are nice, but they're blue and remind me of a kids car. Nothing says I need to grow up like pulling up in a car with a big wing and a blue interior lol

I should correct what I said I owned 3 DSM and two 3/S cars...both of which share nothing in common to very little

I would personally look for the right, latest model c5. It might take some time but it will be worth the wait. Avoid as much of the fix-it flaws of the earlier C5's. Be patient and you will be unbelievably happy!!!

I don't think you will find a nice Z within your budget. Also, don't be afraid of looking for a Vette in the north. Probably 99 out of 100 are stored during the winter months and never see snow. Also, because they are stored they would have lower mileage on average.

Good luck.

Put Evo seats in the '02 C5Z and you'll be amazed at how that car rips stock.

Only problem I've had with my car is the steering column lock. A lot of great info on the forum, I had a 95 240sx with a red-top swap. Jumped to the c5 and I have no regrets what so ever. Relatively cheap to modify as well. Just supercharged mine for under 6500$.

Mine is from right here in the soon-to-be blizzarded North East, and it's in fine shape and a blast to live with. Btw, all the good stuff you read/hear about C5's.....it's true.

Correct; the girl also told me that they didn't bring any MRs. There was one right behind her.....
