Default Help-Need info on FRC/Z06

I just sold my 82 CE and am considering the purchase of an FRC/Z06. Not sure which year or what options, but guess what color I want. I am just starting my search and would appreciate any information I can get on the differences between the year models. I know I can get the specs. for each year model separately, but am looking for a synopsis of the major differences. What improvements did GM make in the 00 model over the 99, 01 over00, etc? What are some must have options and what are some that I may be better off not having?

99 and 00 FRC is basically a stiffer coupe weighing 75 lbs less and with slightly worse CD. Slightly stiffer than the coupe so might have an edge on handling. Z06 takes it to an all new level. Many things were upgraded:

Different engine LS6 vs LS1 (385 hp vs 350)
Different tranny MN12 vs MN6 (with slightly shorter gearing)
Stronger clutch for Z06
Bigger anti roll bars on the Z06 (30 mm in front)
Different wheels with Goodyear SC tires that have less unsprung weight
Different exhaust (titanium - 17 lbs lighter each - I believe that number is close)

For 2002, the Z06 gets standard HUD (not available in 01), 20 more HP and 15 lbs/feet of torque for 405hp/400lbs/feet, stronger clutch, hollow stem valves, different cat setup (single stage) a few other changes like rear suspension recalibration for slightly better ride/handling.

Bottom line, FR is a nice quick vette with great handling and the Z06s cross the line into supercar territory (which I define as 0-100 in under 10, the 1/4 in the 12s and the ability to run with a car like the benchmark 911 turbo on a road course track). The 02s just add a little extra kick up high. Bottom line, all nice cars, and all 3 are VERY similar under 4000 rpm. Above that line is where you would see a big difference from FRC to Z06 and a small difference from 01 to 02 Z06.

Hope this helps...

00 FRC's got the new wheels and an improved Z51. More options were offered but less units were made. Almost by half(4000 in 99 vs. 2000 in 00) 00's are a little harder to find obviously. Good Luck, The few that own them love them. :D
