Default Shifters

Stock, hurst, b&m, C6, or something else and why?

Something I'd like to upgrade wondering what other owners are running

I've had the stock c5, c6 and now on the MGW. Stock was okay if you don't like to get on your car hard. The c6 shifter I had was a nice upgrade and I wouldn't hesitate to do it again. It was smooth and very nice to the touch. The MGW I like the most. It didn't start that way at first it was stiff and hard to engage but after about 100 miles or so it loosened it up and got a lot better. It's still has a firm shift compared to the OEM shifters but to me it's just right not overkill and not to loose. I would go c6 or MGW.

MGW. Solid build, it has a firm spring, and great throw. I love mine.

C6 and love it, its shorter, angled back better and looks perfect in the car, unlike the stock truck shifter that came with it.

Got the core shifter. Price is right and less throw and 1 inch shorter than stock without sacrificing the ease of changing gear.

My Hurst was awful.
Put in a C6Z shifter.
Smooth and a short throw, great for a good flow.

Hurst was awful even after the anti venom mod.
C6 shifter is way better than the stock C5, but still a little to sloppy for my taste.
The MGW was right on the money, short throws with a firm feel when rowing through gears.

To the OP - I have one of these (Core Shifter) for sale. I bought it, then decided not to use it.

with the MGW I noticed they list "lower" box separate, is this part necessary? I don't see that listed from the other vendors.

When you get the MGW does it come w/ a shift ****? Does it work w/ the stock shifter boot?

The lower box is "recommended" by MGW especially if your C5's mileage is on the higher side. When i did the swap on mine, MGW had not developed a lower shifter box yet so i used a brand new C6 lower box. I'm pretty sure it works the same.

If you buy the C6 shifter box assembly it comes with a c6 shifter you can get your money back from by selling on the forum or to somebody else.

MGW does NOT provide a shift **** with the purchase of the shifter but one can be purchased for additional cost. My C6 shift boot worked fine with the combo, see my picture below.

(NOTE: I went with the MGW shifter non threaded for a c6 ****)

So mine only has 13,xxx miles, essentially I should be able to swap out just the shifter w/o the lower box and utilize my stock shift **** and boot (as long as I order the threaded handle)?

I wish i could answer that but i only have experience with the non threaded version. I'm sure someone who has the threaded version (C5 shif ****) will chime in soon.

I installed just the MGW shifter on my '02 Z06 box at about 45K miles and have had no problems - at 90K miles now. My wife has a little trouble getting 6th and reverse but she only drives the car on the highway to spell me on extended (more than one day) trips so that has not been a problem. If she would be driving it more, I would consider doing the Anti-Venom mod.

MGW all the way. I had a Hurst 8-ball **** on there and it rattled. Switched to an MGW **** and it's solid as can be and quiet.

C6 shifter for me.

The shifts feel super smooth and the **** is very comfortable, fits perfectly in my palm.

If you go with MGW shifter then definitely look into a C6 ****, youll love it.
