Default In regards to my Optima battery !!!

Ok so I haven't started my car in about a month and now it won't start,
I have an Optima red top battery in it and I am not sure how old it is!! I could not find the production date anywhere on it! do you guys think I should buy a new battery or just give it a boost and run it for like 15 minutes? i have owned the car for almost a year and never had a problem but since it's been parked for a while now it won't start, I thought Optima batteries should last a lot longer ( is Optima AGM ?),
any input on this would be greatly appreciate !! Any one from Canada here ? as i went to Canadian tire to check out the new AGM blue top batteries but they told me it's not showing in the system for Corvettes , i have a feeling they must have one that fits the vette but they just don't know how to match one for me !

Thanks for the advice but putting it on a charger is impossible for me as my car is parked in a parkade and no power source anywhere near my car!!

Not all battery chargers work on AGMs when they are dead or real low.

I let mine go dead like that last winter. I put it on a charger and it came right back. It's still in the car and is working fine.

By the way what is the group size for a 2000 Corvette ? is it 75 or 78 for that year?, I guess I can buy any AGM battery just by going with the group size. when I went to Canadian tire and part source ( I guess similar to Pep boys in the US), the model numbers that they were giving me was a 75 group size and when I just searched the net I found out that my car uses a 78 group size !!!, now I am so confused !!!! can I damage anything if I go with an AGM 770 CCA , 78 group size?

Just had the same problem. I took mine to Advance auto and they put it on a slow charge and took over 24 hours to charge. It came back ok. I went and bought a battery tender and put it on and it took four days to show a green light.

You can bring it back if you charge it very slowly with a Battery Tender. I've done it on mine. Just take it out and charge it in your home. The Optima Red Top in my car is 15 years old and still working perfectly. Yes, I bought it in 1999 for my previous Vette.

If it is not your driver then why not pull the battery and take it to a shop that charges batteries.

Why don't you pull the battery and take it to a shop does charge batteries? They have chargers that has a lot more power than the small home chargers.Just saying.

Certainly an option if you do not have to drive the car everyday. Get a battery tender, hook it to the battery and always have a fully charged battery when you do want to drive the car.

Can you park near the light and use a solar charger on the dash? The cars' computers are always on and will drain the battery if the car sits too long. If there is no way to charge the battery then disconnect it for long storage times.

What's a parkade? (sorry, new term to me)

Does your car have any aftermarket electronics- stereo, etc- that's pulling down your battery?

Agree with removing the battery to charge it- then try to start . . . .you will probably need to re-index the windows, stereo stations and perhaps even the TPMS . .

Good luck-

My red top was dead and unchargable in under 1 year. I will never buy an Optima again.

I think Optima batteries are like a lot of other products on the market, some perform great and some take a dump. My experience with the redtop in my car when I bought it 3 years ago has been positive. Never given me a problem. If my car would not start today, I would still give it the benefit of the doubt with a slow charge.

There's more to recovering a dead red top. You have to hook a good battery in parallel with the red top. You charge the good battery and the redtop will take a charge.

Google it, or check out optimas web site.

I abused my first one and it made it 2 years. They gave me a new one and it has a maintainer on it, so far no problems in the last couple years with it.

Optima is goofy on charging as stated above. I dont see a reason why you could not charge it with a good charger. My schumacher charger has a setting for AGM batteries. I have had a few red top failures in the past and wont run them anymore as well. I had great luck with Yellow tops for years but recently my last few failed fast. personally i run interstate batteries only now.
