I was 23 when I purchased my Corvette. (25 now) I was 1 year out of College with a well paying job and money saved from years of work that allowed me the luxury of purchasing my every option '02.
My father who is on his 37th Corvette started when he was 18 and passed on the obsession to me. Growing up there was always 1 or 2 Corvettes in the garage and he told me to save save save if I wanted to have one of my own. And save I did.
Kudos to those who are ~20 and have a Corvette. Whether you own it, have payments or your parents purchased it or gave you a hand is alllllll right with me. The youngins are what we all need to keep the passion alive regardless of how they got it. Sure even still I get the "How can you afford a Corvette" or "Look who has all the money" Little do they know the true cost of such a car. (MINUS THE MODS! HAHAHAH)
I enjoy being the youngin' in the crowd. Most all the meets I go to or cruises I attend I am the youngest participant by at least 25-30 years. And that I find AWESOME. Age should not be a factor, we all share a passion and love for America's Sports Car.
Keep it shiny side up and the TC on! Drive safely and don't forget to wave!

Negative perceptions jealous people have about Corvette owners (that I have actually heard)
Age
16-25 - Mommy and daddy got money and spoil you, you don't deserve that car.
26-35 - Obviously Immature man child grow up already!
36-45 - Can you say mid life crisis and over compensating for a small _______
46-59 - kinda pushing this whole mid life crisis thing aren't ya pops?
60+ - Look at him trying to relive his youth… really grandpa?
Female of any age - Must be nice to have a sugar daddy or Probably a stripper.
So basically we can all be judged negatively by someone LOL
Response of a corvette owner about those perceptions
Age
16-25 - Thats not true SHUT UP
26-35 - and your point is???? so do you wanna ride or what?
36-45 - lets go back your place and I'll prove you wrong wink wink
46-59 - Yeah yeah but you know you wish you owned it!
60+ - ehhhh huh??? sorry can you speak into my right ear?
Any Female of any age - ??? no idea cause nobody is dumb enough to say that to any female driving Corvette

Good lord man... maybe they do and your just bitter about it. Either way who cares?!?!?
And yes I am offended that your judging others did they ask for your almighty judgment no I don't think so. They just asked who else was here in their age group and decided to show off their cars. Somebody will always have something negative or accusatory to say about anything.
I congratulate them all on being in the older car game. It's not easy and doesn't always make sense but that's what being a car lover is all about.

Also, based on your disdain for "RICERS" it's interesting how hypocritical you are when it comes to "passing judgment" eh?

I'm impressed. If I would have had a Vette at your age it would have been a disaster. I graduated from the school of hard knocks. Myself or the Vette or both would never have made it through that time in my life. Never. Sounds like you have your head on straight and priorities in order. Good for you and keep it up.

Bought my first vette at 21 on my birthday black 98 coupe. Worked two jobs one as a bartender at night then landscaping during the day. I lived on my own with a room mate in a two bedroom house. Really had no other life then work and my car but I enjoyed every moment of it. I ended up selling the vette two years later to buy my wife a ring and start a family. When I sold that car I told myself there's no way I will not have another one someday. 30 now and I just picked up a 2003 torch red z06. I think it's awesome that there's younger guys out there today like myself at that time doing the same thing I did. I thought with the latest generation it was just a bunch of handout kids.
Enjoy you're hard labor and most of all enjoy the time you get to take you're baby for a cruise!

I lol'd at all the people who believe a 17-18 yr old works 6-7 days/wk 8-12hrs a day... Really? 48-74hr work weeks at 18...stop it!
I also find it funny how you guys believe a 17-18 yr old can afford a $12-15,000 car, paid in full of course because no teenager will be able to get a loan on a 13+ yr old car, while also paying for maintenance on said 13+ year old car, and insurance which would run $250-500+/month on a vette depending on coverage and location... all without a single hand from their parents...
Now there's nothing wrong with your parents buying you a vette, or helping you out for that matter, but please lets not be coy about it. As someone who literally was on their own at 18, paid everything themselves such as food, auto, health, living, rent, and college tuition themselves, I know first hand what the limitations are.

I'm 65 and I've never given a second thought to someone young owning a Corvette. Why someone young drives any type of car or whether they can afford it is none of my business. All I know is that we share the same passion and that's all that matters to me.
