My 02 came with 2:73 gears. It had plenty of get up and go but I wanted more so I did the gear swap and went with 3:42's. Huge difference in seat of the pants feel.

I then had an unrelated transmission problem so I swapped out the stock A4 with an RPM Level IV tranny and replaced the torque converter with a Yank SS3200. I also had a performance tune done. Now at about a half throttle start the tires spin and spin again when shifting into 2nd!

The z51 sport pack doesn't include the 3.15 axle option on the 03 they are separate $395 each
I happen to have both and can squeal the tires with little effort without my pending headers

the base with 2:73 gears is what I have and it feels slow from the start just due to the gearing that's why it doesn't give you that instant seat of the pants feel, the power is there, its just the gearing, try taking it on freeway and hit it from 50 or 60 mph youll be at at 120+ pretty quick, having said that I think id rather try the 315's and use the power down lower, my guess is high13's in quarter mile maybe even into 14's, I owned a gto for 23 years with 410 rear gears, decent build on engine, it did mid 12's which was where my budget kept me, in comparison it would smoke my vette in quarter mile...ok done rambleing here for whatever that was worth

I'm not even basing it off of what I have now. 04 Z06.

I'm basing my opinion off of having an 02 Auto coupe with 3.15 gears that I added LG super pros, a cam and a yank 4000 stall and wasn't merely impressed with it besides the sound.

The drivetrain loss with the IRS and it being an auto makes them pretty damn slow IMO unless you drop a damn super charger or nitrous on it...

I had an auto 02 Fbody camaro before the auto vette with almost identical mods and it would have put the vette to shame.

Again Auto C5's are **** slow... Unless you drop serious coin have fun being slow lol

So with all this being said about the automatic corvette... would anybody really even be happy with one of these??? I mean they look amazing and all but if the car is all show and no go then doesn't that defeat the purpose of this car?

Cuz now its really starting to sound to me like a even a mustang can take em on... ouch.

And im not talking about the new coyote 5.0 either :/

Are you missing the point of the mods?

Anytime down the road you can make it go faster, so there is no downside to owning one.

I have one and I love it.

And it's far from a pig like some of the posters here would like to believe.

I just got a 2001 c5 in November, put it away for the winter, then I brought it out, and drove it for a week, wasn't slow by any means, just not wicked fast from a stop. would spin the tires no problem.

then I put on long tube headers and a twin k and n intake hi-flow cat, and hi flow mufflers, it got quick, much better , and sounded great, and 3 weeks later got it tuned. they changed the shift points and tranny pressures as well. it shifts hard and fast, and when you step on it it slams u into the seat, oh yah, the tune alone picked up 20 rwhp

and ive got the 2.73

You need to get off your high horse, All people is saying is that if he wants an A4 is to get the 3.15 option, I don't know what is up with you lately but you seem to be doing a lot of negative posting.
So what if you have a ZO6, All Corvettes are nice.

I dunno, that dude looks pretty happy on that horse lol

The only high horse here is the one you just put me on.

I'm Not bragging about anything lol

I'm simply stating facts based off of personal experience something most internet people lack when making claims I'm also just giving my opinions.

I went from 2:73's to 3:42's to 3:73's

the 2:73's were so slow that it didn't shift into drive until 110 mph. the 3:73's now shift at 85 mph into drive sometimes turning on the traction control light.

If you were to change the rear gears you should be able to just order a z06 rear with 3:42's

If I might throw in one more comment... if I'm not mistaken, ALL C5 Corvettes with M6 transmissions came from the factory with 3.42 gears. So yeah, a stock A4 with 2.73 would feel sluggish to that. The 3.15 gears remedied that somewhat due to the 1st gear ratios in each transmission. See below:

Type.......4-Speed Automatic......6-Speed Borg-Warner
Gear Ratios
1st..................3.06............... .............2.66
2nd.................1.060............... ............1.78
3rd..................1.00............... .............1.30
4th..................0.7................ ..............1.00
5th...................NA................ ..............0.74
6th...................NA................ ..............0.50
Reverse............2.29................. ............2.90

Therefore, I would say that the gear ratio, NOT the transmission choice, is what made the M6 feel quicker than the A4. Put 3.42s in the A4 and you'll think its just as quick.
