If I might throw in one more comment... if I'm not mistaken, ALL C5 Corvettes with M6 transmissions came from the factory with 3.42 gears. So yeah, a stock A4 with 2.73 would feel sluggish to that. The 3.15 gears remedied that somewhat due to the 1st gear ratios in each transmission. See below:
Type.......4-Speed Automatic......6-Speed Borg-Warner
Gear Ratios
1st..................3.06............... .............2.66
2nd.................1.060............... ............1.78
3rd..................1.00............... .............1.30
4th..................0.7................ ..............1.00
5th...................NA................ ..............0.74
6th...................NA................ ..............0.50
Reverse............2.29................. ............2.90
Therefore, I would say that the gear ratio, NOT the transmission choice, is what made the M6 feel quicker than the A4. Put 3.42s in the A4 and you'll think its just as quick.

Well said Bill! A lot of guys think that Z06 means supercar. It isn't much faster than a base car with the same gears. I've watched several Z's grow real small real fast in my rearview mirror. I'm not stock but I look stock and the look on their faces at the next light is great!!

My experience with the C5... Had a 1998 Corvette auto, 3.15 gear with some bolt ons (LT headers, X-pipe, CAI, suspension) and had some fun with it (150 mph on highway), traded it for a supercharged 2005 Mustang GT, 5 speed, 450 RWHP because I thought I wanted more of a "muscle car" rather than a "sports car" And guess what? Sold it to buy another C5 ~ 1999 Corvette, auto, 3.15 gear, bone stock. Because I missed the handling of the C5, barely even brake to take turns again. And even being stock its a blast to drive. 150+HP less than the Mustang, yet still a whole lot more fun! Take another test drive, stomp on it, and when it kicks down a gear, hold on!!! These cars by far get you the most bang for your buck.

man if you want modern performance for an old car , just buy a new one and spend the cash. I have the auto with 2.73 gears and it is not lightning off the line. enjoy the car for what it is . the quest for more an more power is a game that you will never win. you will learn to recognize and avoid the dead spots in the auto tranny. for example, do not engage someone just half way into the second shift...it wont kick down there...automatically. if you nail it right after the 1-2 **** it will fly though. just look at the guy who is not happy with his 600 plus hp .....!!!! its still faster than just about any corvette before it and I would love to have some of those older ones despite their lack of power. Enjoy

Great to hear she cant outrun you lol. But the main killer for me right now is that , Being a Corvette, I expect it to feel like a Sports car. (Kick in the pants feel)
I didnt feel it as much as i thought i would but like i said i didnt full throttle .
Just wondering, are u stock??

Safety Car
I owned a '98 C5 'vert with A4 3.15 and a 2007 GS350. I ran a 13.1 at 108 bone stock in the C5... never ran the GS but I read theyre good for high 13 sec passes.
The problem with C5 autos is they have an ancient 4 speed tranny.. The IS/GS350 with 6 speed autos are MUCH more pleasant to drive.
