Default How fast would you say a base A4 is?

So thanks to the help of the community i have FINALLY driven a C5. It was a white 2001 base A4 coupe. I LOVED the looks of it in person and loved how it drove. I lefr overall with a good outlook of the car

HOWEVER.... I didnt really floor it on the car during the test (Due to the salesman riding with me) but i did get about 75% on it. I would say the car felt really nice with a good pickup on speed but i had also driven a 2007 IS350 about 2 hours prior. To my surprise (i did floor it on the IS350 multiple times lol) the lexus felt like it had more pull to it then the C5??

So my question is... How fast is a STOCK base A4 C5? Im only asking for the A4 with 2.73 gears.

Also do you think I would have enjoyed it more if i did floor it?? I mean dont get me wrong but for a 3600 lb V6 luxury sedan to be as fast (i think) as the C5 sounds petty ridiculous...

Any advice or help with this aprreciated. Thanks

Why would you even consider a base car that's as old as these are and expect modern performance?

In otherwords.......buy the old base and supercharge it! Then apply the go pedal and get back to us.

The 2:73 are pretty tame. The 3:15 with the Z51 package in an A4 is pretty fun. That is what I have in my 04 and am very happy with it.

OK, Here is my input...
Seeing you want an automatic, I would look for one with the Z51 option, It will have 3.15 gears and it does make a difference, I have an A4 with 3.15 gears and it no dog, Sure there are fasters cars, But the C5 really shines on the curves.. 2.73 gears really do suck.
If you can't find a Z51 I am sure you will have a blast with the base A4 unit.

I agree, I drove an a4 with the crappy gears and it felt slower than my 350z did. Great for a cruiser, but it was either spinning the tires or way too slow.

As the owner of a white A4 with the 3.15 gears, you can rest assured that it will be a blast. WOT on a Vette is something else. You might have thought you were at 75% and you might have easily have been at 50%. As stated, look for an A4 with the 3.15 gears. You'll be glad you did!!

My wife has a 09 lexus is 350, and I'll tell you it's no joke in terms of aceleration and ride, but it's a different animal than the Corvette, the Vette is more Raw, or at least mine is.
Anyway just saying the Lexus has a very high tech V6 and for what it is (315) horses is pretty nice (for my wife) anyway just saying different car IMO.

Forgot to add she can't outrun me

Both of my C5's have been autos. The first one had the 2:73's and a whole lot of luxury items I could have lived without like the memory package, etc.

The second, my current one, has the Z51 with 3:15 gears and only the extra stuff I wanted like sport seats. Major difference in the two cars!!! I loved my first one.......until I got this one!

I would say hold out for one with Z51 package or one that someone has put the 3:43 gears in......even better!!!!!!!

Great to hear she cant outrun you lol. But the main killer for me right now is that , Being a Corvette, I expect it to feel like a Sports car. (Kick in the pants feel)

I didnt feel it as much as i thought i would but like i said i didnt full throttle .

Just wondering, are u stock??

The Lexus is stock, I'm not, making a hair under 650 at the wheels with a blower and some other items.
Like many have said, you hold out for the right options and you won't be sorry, I've rode in several z-51 autos with the gear option and they are a blast.
The wait for the right car will definitely be worth it

My 2001 A4 isn't a Z but it has the 3:15 rear end and even my high performance mechanic commented on how fast it is and he works on all the exotics. I've never driven a 2:73 so I can't make a comparison. You might want to check the build sheet for the option codes. I don't recall the code right now but as you probably know you can look them up on line. Having said all that the only way you'll know for yourself is if you put it to the floor yourself. If you're a serious buyer the salesman won't mind. Mine didn't.

Okay so lets say i do buy the base with 2.73's. If i decide to later change the gears, how expensive is it? Ive never really understood what it means to change gears on a car so if you guys could shed some light, its greatly appreciated as always

I put a 3:43 in mine about 6 years ago and it still surprises me every time I mash the throttle. Just today I was driving to Reno and pulled out to pass a truck on 395 and bam it hits the kick down gear. I looked at my passenger and said, I forget how hard this LS1 hits sometimes.

You could find a complete rear with 3.42 gears pretty reasonable and just do a swap, that would really put a smile on your face, gas milage will suffer, but who buys a Corvette for gas milage, can't say what it cost but can't be too bad.
