OK, tell me this is a joke. Just installed the unit, following the directions to a T and started the car and the column is locked!!!
Now what?
Will removing it unlock the column??

OK, my bad.
I followed the install video completely. Looking at the paper instructions I see I was supposed to remove the "steering column lock relay" before I proceeded. I didn't.
Has anyone else stumbled down this road?
Will unplugging the relay now help?

IMHO, that doesn't sound like the right path. (If it was that easy, I suspect the whole column-lock thing wouldn't be that big a deal.)
I'd work backwards, removing the LMC5 to get the car back to its "factory" state, get the column unlocked, then unplug the relay and reinstall the LMC5.

Hey,Jeff. I'm not sure what your next step is,but if you find out you need the unlocker ,ive got one you can have. I ordered it when i installed my LMC and never used it.I live in Sycamore ,so were not too far apart.Somebody on the forum will be able to tell you next step or tomorrow you can probably reach Richard at ComplianceParts. He'll definetly point you in right direction. PM me if you need it. Tom F.

Just wondering what your fix was. Did he just have you plug your relay back in? I never unplugged mine when installing LMC5 even though it might cause me a problem down the road. You're definetly right about Richard . He goes above and beyond.

OK... Here's what I did.
I followed the youtube video and ignored the paper instructions. (mistake)
When I thought I was done I started the car with the column lock relay still connected and the wheel was locked.
Emailed Richard and his solution is below, I paraphrased...
Solution: Unplugged column lock relay. From a 12v source, spare battery for me, ran two wires. Positive (+) to the purple wire in relay, negative (-) to the white wire in relay. Column unlocked immediately when the wires were touched to the 12v source. The column lock relay remains unplugged.
Hope that helps...

Where is the steering column lock relay located and how do you remove it?

Not uncommon for people to "put the column in a lock condition" and not know it and then start with the install. If not actually locked yet, it will be as soon as you turn the steering wheel after the LMC5 install. It will then remain in the locked condition until you cause the motor to unlock in doing something like what he did. It will then remain in the unlocked condition since the motor is then unpowered with the circuits disconnected.
Here is one way to prevent that if your column locks and unlocks normally:
If the CL is functioning normally you don't not need the Unlocker, merely turn key on, pull fuse #23, remove key, verify wheel is unlocked, disconnect negative battery terminal, re-insert fuse #23 and continue with the install.

The LMC5 mimics/overrides the column signals to the BCM. So basically once you hook it up, it'll stay in whatever state it was in. Alternatively, you could've just returned everything to factory, unlocked the column normally, pulled a fuse or the relay, and then hooked up the LMC5. But you're sorted out now regardless.
