tach sticking from 1500 to 3500 rpm

tach sticking from 1500 to 3500 rpm
anyone have their stock in dash z06 gauge needle get stuck , about 1/2 the time it doesnt work gets stuck at about 1500rpm and then sometimes pops up past 3500rpm , obviously the gauge itself as the hud tach works as does my plx tach , and when it is stuck if i tap on plexiglass it pops up , ??? , any cure without ripping dash out , thanks (20,000 miles on 04 z06)

I am seen some sticky gauges before that would not come off the lowest reading. Removing the cluster and manually actuating the needle fixed it. Yours sounds like it is sticking also but may not be able to fixed unless you can ID why and resolve it. You may have to buy a new cluster and swap out the entire unit or just the gauge.

I've never taken out a HUD equipped gauge cluster but I have had mine out a few times (2000 coupe). It's not that bad and from what I've read, the HUD model just has a few more steps.
From start until cluster is out on the bench, I can have mine out in about 25 minutes. So if it comes down to physically checking your needles, there are worse repairs that take longer and are much more labor intensive.
