Over the weekend I replaced an old drivers seat foam with a heavy duty dense foam one. The seat is much more comfortable than the old one, which I had already tried repairing by installing the foam insert repair kit several weeks back. The foam was too far gone and still the seat was uncomfortable.
All was well on the weekend.... with the top down. Once it started to rain and I put up the top, I found that I no longer could fit in the car comfortably, even with the seat reclined as much as possible there is not enough headroom. Measuring the distance between the seat and the roof, there is 7/8" less headroom on the drivers side as compared to the passenger side (and I REFUSE to ride in the passenger seat )
I will either have to modify something with the existing setup, or get new seats.
...Does anyone know if I can lower the existing setup, OR
...Does anyone know of aftermarket seats that will give me a couple of inches more headroom than I already have (right now there is 34 1/2 inches from the lowest point.)
Same here - I put in the replacement foam and the additional foam insert repair kit. Took a few weeks but its back to normal now - though I did like feeling taller for a while.
Thanks guys,
With my 250 pounds on it for an hour a day, makes sense that it would buckle under that kind of pressure! I am sure that's why the old one gave out.
Right now I can hardly see out the windshield unless I slide down in the seat, but then my legs are nearly hitting the wheel. Amazing what a difference an inch or so makes.
Just checked today - when I had originally replaced my head was touching the liner - today I have about 1-1/2" (three fingers). I may be slouching more but I don't think so. Seat is still very comfortable. Just drove 7 hours in the car (stopping once for gas) with no seat discomfort.

did the same as above and after a 400 mile road trip seat height was closer to normal. I believe it will level out just fine.
