To those who responded to my reason for owning a Corvette, please send me your comments again. I mistakenly deleted them and really wanted to read them. Getting older comes with it's baggage. We do things without thinking through. Thanks, Jim

That's awesome.

A few years ago my little brother had just gotten divorced after 14 months in Afghanistan and was having a crisis. I get a text "350z NISMO or C6?". Before he left, he had sold his 350z and missed it, but had found an insane deal on a clean C6. I said "If they are the same price and the C6 is manual, I'd go C6."

He bought it, I drove it and fell in love. A few months later I scored my C4 to cut up for another project and after driving it for a month, I couldn't do it. I ended up rolling it after I hit a patch of ice (it was my daily driver) and I bought a truck with the insurance money.

A year later, my new girlfriend decided I should have something funner than my truck to drive to work since she lives so far out. So after looking for a couple months, I found an '01 and have had it a year.

We might be selling it because with my daughter spending more and more time with us, it's tough having only 2 seats. But my daughter loves Ester as much as I do.

Your wife sounds like a real fighter ! Great she's in remission and hopefully will stay that way. Y'all live life to fullest now and enjoy everyday that's left together enjoying your C5 and Harley !

OH .. I drive one for the fun factor .. not to race but to just to enjoy driving with top down on nice sunny days .. nice nights .. wind in hair listening to oldies !

I simply bought mine because it was the best car I could find for the money in terms of performance, reliability, looks, etc. I have a company vehicle during the week, so I didn't need anything practical anymore... test drove a bunch of cars and just fell in love with the C5.

I'm only 25 and have pretty much had imports (i.e. Civic, Miata, GTI) thus far, so this car is different for me, but I can't wait to get it on the track next year! It's just a fun car to drive and own without breaking the bank, nothing quite like that V8 sound.

Money and opportunity came together at the same time....didn't know if it would ever happen again, so bought my C5 in Aug 2000.
Simply nothing else like it.

14 years and (fortunately) several good investments later, bought a C7.
Still nothing like it.

My mother said that I've been asking for a corvette from the time I was 10 years old. She told me I could have one when I could buy it for myself.

Well it took 47 years but I purchased a slightly used 2003 anniversary red convertible! My mom, who's now in her 80s, enjoys riding in it too!

Why do I enjoy riding in it? Because it's proof positive that if you want something badly enough, and you work very hard, you can get it, even if it does take 47 years!

...And also, because every time I drive in it, or even talk about it, I get a stupid smile on my face that makes me feel soooo good!!!

I have ALWAYS wanted one from age 10. The time was right at 50 y.o. to buy a C5. The cash situation now has allowed me to heavily modify it to my liking. This is now my DD/Track car. It puts a smile on my face every time I drive it. The excitement I get from it on the track is indescribable. It will be my retirement toy in a couple of years when I retire. Besides...

It's the baddest, most iconic American car on the planet.

The C5 Z06 is simply the closest thing to my ideal of a perfect car.
- I paid $23k for a 405-hp, 3150-lb car which pulls 1.0g in corners and gets good mpg.
- I added another ~80hp and now it's a rocket.
- It handles great and yet rides super comfy. Leaf springs FTW! Who knew??
- Great OEM stereo.
- Six-speed manual.
- Electron Blue.
- LS6 + MTI V3 cam + LG headers + hi-flow cats + OEM catback = a mean idle and amazing top-end scream when I wind it out. I love to drive around just listening to it.
- It gets more attention than Paris Hilton walking down the street naked. Every kid under the age of 95 thinks it's a new car and wants a ride.
- My girlfriend and her kids won't let me even think of selling it. They fight over who gets to ride with me when we go somewhere.
- When I take a crappy out-of-focus cell phone picture late at night at a truck stop, it looks like this:

I honestly never knew that owning a Corvette could be such an amazing experience until I bought one.

I just wanted something cheap and good on gas. It was between the z06 and a geo metro. Flipped a coin for it.

She had a 73 big block 4 spd car, but wouldn't drive it cause she couldn't see out.....we sold it last week.

Now we are having a blast taking off on little road trips in the C5.......affordable, good looking, fast, great gas mileage, dependable, a/c, descent cd player, trunk space......LIFE is GOOD.. and I don't have to work on it "bonus"
We decided that we were not going to quit living to stay alive.....
That's why we are driving a C5 corvette, she LOVES driving this 6spd........ ( I believe the best corvette ever built)

I hope we can drive this thing till the wheels fall off.........

Life is short.....hunt hard and drive a vette!
I bought mine last year I was when I was 52yo always wanted one. Its my mid life crisis car. I figured Im the long run its cheaper than a 28 yo blonde LOL
