I think TG's question has merit. On this particular corvette forum when you see "cam only" and running in the 9's @140mph most C5 guys are gonna either raise the BS flag or ask how the heck... Having had a bbc 67 camaro that would run 9.8@138+ and knowing what it took to get there I had both those thoughts when I saw the heading on this post.

My next thought was, what have you done to lighten it, what slicks are ya running, other mods, ect...

It's great times no doubt!!! But the heading is a little misleading that "cam only" is really not just a different cam in an otherwise stock car. On a different forum geared toward drag racing I'm guessing a lot of guys would get it, but here with guys doing all they can to get into the 11's it just creates some misinformation from the get go.

To push a 3200 lb car 140 out the big end would need 700 hp . WOW !

That was one of my first thoughts. My 67 camaro was 3500lbs without a driver running a heavy bbc and rollbar, and just engine alone got me high 10's. Needed a 150 shot to get into the 9's, so yeah, it takes a light weight car and a fair amount of hp with some traction to do what this guy is doing. Pretty impressive!

It's all good fellas. My car is lightweight. I'm running an event right now they call a cam-only class for my car. That's why I set the car up this way, to fit the rules.
You can't go by hp numbers. It's all about uncorrected power under the curve and the ability to put as much of it to the ground as possible.
Took 1 pass in warm up and went 9.69@139+ on the limiter.

9.6 @ 139mph tells me you've got plenty of hp to push your lightweight, but as important, you've figured out how to hook it up. The et's match the mph very well!

Qualified #2 on only 1 full pass.
Had some clutch issues and hurt trans.
Made adjustments and put in spare trans (not ideal for this setup) thanks to my friends and Kevin Smalley's expertise.
Car not 100% but we'll have to make due.
10.66@141.85 with 1.37
messed up with 2 step and set launch rpm to 7100 by accident. Oops!
More left in tune running too lean on that pass.

Track and conditions were best Friday but couldn't lay one down.
Best 60' was 1.35.
Thanks

So first off it's light.
I drag race a bit so I set it up for the drag strip and therefore its especially efficient in the 1/4 mile.
That stuff accounts for a lot and most people know that about my car already.

I've been around a while and I'm aware of the fast lists and use them as goals to try and achieve with my car.
I don't make the lists, except for one which basically has no restrictions, and abide by the rules that was set forth. You are always going to have someone complain and interpret rules differently then others. That I can accept. I didn't build this setup to take the top spot on the list. I was running a bolt on only SBE setup and having fun and have the opportunity to compete in a drag racing event that allows a cam and is considered a cam-only class for corvettes. So we decided to throw in a cam and we fit the rules nicely so I can compete in a heads up all motor class which I've always want to try.
I'm allowed stock 243 heads with an aftermarket valve train so that's what we did.

I don't have a lot of experience racing but I do it for fun.
I know that my car also fits into the cam-only fast list rules on LS1 tech [which states you only need to have stock heads/rods/pistons] which has always been the accepted list since I started racing for fun about 10 years ago. Back then I couldn't understand how those guys on top ran so fast, now I do.
So these are just silly list but they give some of us incentive to go out there and race when we can't run heads up against similarly modified cars which is by far the most fun for me. I'll line up with anyone for fun.
I was running a 26x10x15 Hoosier slick. My favorite tire is the 275 50 15 which will et and seems to 60' the best but I can't use it because I will go thru the traps close to 8000 rpm and the SBE will not be happy.
Mt best 60' so far is 1.37 on the small radial.
Best 60 on the slick is 1.39.
I've only run out a few passes due to many different circumstances but I'm confident the car will go quicker.
I went 1.464 on the 9.80 @ 140+ pass. Not sure of 1/8 mile, Gary has the time slip. Trap speed was around 111.8mph?
Enjoy what you have and call it what you like. I'm always willing to help out people with their setups but keep in mind giving my cam specs out most likely isn't going to help much.

I SAW your passes and AMAZING amazing stock looking car go so000000 fast... and the driver certainly showed up... Been VERY curious of the stuff you Removed of the car and How much does it weigh?!

He's not going to give out all the info on his car, guys... there's a reason he doesn't give out the weight and what exactly he's done to get there

There's a lot of blood, sweat, and time in his setup and he isn't just going to give that away

Thanks fellas. What to do next?

1) Stay cam-only and optimize and run WCF again.
2) Do heads and see what it will run SBE 346 H/C.
3) Go back to bolt-ons with stock exhaust and shoot for an 9 then let my wife race it.
4) Put the 388ci in and shoot for an 8.
5) Put the 396ci (~950fwhp) and see what it will run then find a class to fit in.
6) Stay in retirement as planned and try and sell a ton of stuff.

#3 would be most fun for me right this moment.

Just 2 questions-

1. Does "stock heads" mean they cannot be ported or fiddled with in any way?
2. Cars weight? Not needing to know what was removed, just curious of total weight with driver.

Obviously car is putting a fair amount of power down, but I'm very interested in power to weight with what you're doing. Thx!

I think where most of us are struggling to grasp the et/mph is with the stock appearing car and LS6 cubes, magic cam or not. I'm figuring you'd have to be at 2500lbs total with driver and making around 535hp at the wheels as well as getting it to hook. All of those are tough to do, so that's where folks are asking the questions and wondering, hth did he do that?
