Default what a price for a paint job

what's up corvette guys and girls?
I took my 99 c5 into town to get a price for a paint job. nothing over the top just back to corvette black. no i don't know is if there is a special way to prime the car before spraying the paint. no major fiberglass work just one spot on the hood that needs some attention. I my be wrong about this but the guy told me that it will cost me 10,000 to paint my car. I really think that was way high. Does that sound high or is that about right?

That seems way high. I would think closer to $3000 for a stock quality full repaint with minimal prep. I just had a truck bedside repaired, and shop labor was $45 an hour. Figure a couple quarts of paint at no more than $100 a quart, and you would have to have some serious time invested to get anywhere near the number he was talking.

For $10K, it had better be one heck of a paint job. I would think you could get very good, stock color one for a lot less than that amount. Best bet is to check around and check references from each shop.

That sounds about right for a "standard" paint job.

With more man-hours on the prep, the better the job and the higher the cost.

The last car I had a full paint job was my firebird - no colour change, $2500.00. No bodywork was needed. I can't imagine a Corvette being much different for a standard paint job.

It depends on the area and if a shop is willing to do it. I shopped around and was quoted between 3-10k. The 10k people do not want to do it as their speciality is just minor work. The 3k was, well I did not feel the quality was up to par. I settled with a 5k paint job and turned out good. Ask to view their shop and see how other cars look before you throw all the cash over.

Yeah, body shops see a Vette coming a mile away they always ask for more. When asked why, they always say because its fiberglass.

I just spent $10K on paint and body for my '72 Vette that I am restoring. I could have gone with cheaper products, cheaper painter, etc but a Vette has an image to uphold and having a crappy paint job is not acceptable.

Last year a semi truck threw up some metal debris on the I-10 freeway and hit my 04 CE. I wound up doing an entire paint job with some panel damage (required fiberglass repair) to four panels and it was under $7k, including a replacement windshield and targa top rubber. So figure around $5200 once you take out the windshield ($1100) and $800 for new rubber (front w/s, rear targa top).

That's what I paid to repaint my special edition Last Flight 02 TA including installing all the decals and stripes. Sadly, I sold the car shortly after.
I bought the kit though.
Right after it got resprayed...

If you spend $3000 for a paint job for a plastic car (Corvette), you'll get to see what a $3000 paint job looks like. It'll cost less to do it right the first time than to fix it. Reminds me of a sign on a local tattoo shop: "we fix $25 tattoos"

I know its not a corvette, but I had a local Maaco spray the mustang years ago. Total cost $558. Front bumper needed a little bit of body work as well and extra sanding. Painter came up to me and said he was a mustang lover and not to worry. It came out great! I had a run on the side scoop but they told me to come back and they took care of it. I can't understand how much better a $10,000 paint job would be?

Get away from the lump sum bids. Ask for labor and paint and material cost. Spring for the highest quality (expensive) clear coat you can afford. That is if you want the dripping wet, foot deep shine look. A high volume, insurance repair shop probably won't mess with the upgraded clear.

Just had my ride done. '04 Z06 MY with some graphics added to the side coves and top of MCM blower hood. All glass removed. The car was basically disassembled, primed, mocked up for graphics, separated again and painted, replaced the glass and then reassembled. Should be back in my possession very soon just in time for winter storage

Cost me a bit more than ten grand. Coulda went low end but no regrets here.

Its all about what you are getting for ten grand... 10 grand was common around here for a quality paint job, with a lifetime guarantee, and that was ten years ago..
There is a lot of work in doing it right.. doors, top, hatch, hood, fenders all come off,.,., front and rear fascia... all the gaskets come off.
you can get a 500 Macco job. or you can get a lifetime 10 grand job.. believe me, there is a big difference in a 500 dollar paint job and a ten grand paint job... just for example... taking off a front or rear fascias and repaint in it and reinstalling it.. is 800 to 1000 dollars and that's cheap.... many places charge 800 to 1000 for just one fascia. do the math.. remove and paint and reinstall a hood,800 to 1000. each door 600 to 800 .Each fender removed and painted and installed 600/800 each ( that's more than 2 grand right there) the hatch is difficult 1000 to 1200 dollars, rockers are 500/800 for the pair) . I can tell you that Macco does not remove anything for 500 dollars.. its a quick scrub mask and paint... BTW the cost of paint and primer and supplies for a whole car is in excess of 500 dollars.
My life long adage... " I can not afford to buy anything too cheap.."
Of course you can get all types of work done at any price.,.. there are also paint jobs out there, that are 20 grand.. where the paint can be 500 dollars a quart. So your question is " Is ten grand too much " it might be too much for you... therefor , its too much... MY question is what are you getting for ten grand... did you get any references... have you seen any full body paint jobs. from the shop. do they have quality cars? or is it an insurance paint mill... where the shop puts out cheap work, because the insurance company send people there.. Does the shop have pride in their work ? there is a big range of quality between Macco at 500 dollars, and a first class high end paint job at 20 grand..

I knew I shoulda' took body and paint in high school!!! Paint makes the car we all know that, but at $10k you might as well trade cars. If I had a $10k paint job I'd be afraid to take the car out of the garage.

10k is what I paid to paint my vette but I paid for time. Car was totally disassembled and painted apart. then there was many hours of wet sanding to have no peel. Would have been half that for a simple tape and mask and a factory finish.
