Savvy lets you set a speed at which everything will come in at the muted tone if you're going below. Good for parking lots and such.
I would probably just buy new, that way you get the latest hardware and firmware, some of the upgrades cost a good bit of coin, so if you do buy used make sure you run the serial # on the V1 website first to ensure it is up to date.
"Good for parking lots and such."
Who speeds in a parking lot ?
I'm not sure what that means.... AND I'm not sure the"SAVY" will be of any use to me.
So I just sold my Escort 8500 on another site and now it's time to buy and tryout the V1. Lets see how well it works compared to my old Escort 8500 unit.

I may even look into a jammer as well.
If I read it right, I think what he means is under a certain speed your radar alerts are muted. So if you're sitting in traffic or in a parking lot and only driving 20 mph, you won't get any radar alerts bugging you. Like you said, who speeds in a parking lot? So by that theory, why would I care if there is radar around?

This is correct, it allows you to set the V1 to auto mute if you are going below the set speed.. V1s are very chatty, so this is definitely a welcomed feature

Buy new.
Radar jammers are illegal and good lazer jammers are serious $$
You might want to look into Escort's current 'Redline' model. If you do a little research on recent tests and reviews, several, the Valentine1 is not the top dog anymore, but still ranks in the top 5. Depends again who does these evaluations. I am in the search for a unit as well !!
Im an Escort fan myself love all there products, I have a small side business myself idk where your location is but I have brand new in the box Escort radar dectors for sale if interested cheaper then retail, direct message me if interested.

The Escort Redline is nice and very similar to my 8500 X50, but that's a hell-uva steep price tage on that thing !!!

Sorry but I can't pm you as some idiot took my pm privileges away....
The Escort Redline is a good system...I have the 8500 in one vehicle and 9500ix in another and like them both. I will likely send the 8500 in soon to get new firmware and flash done by Escort as it is still working great. The 9500ix I download and update on my own on the laptop at home for both firmware/settings as well as identified StopLight Cams, Radar Traps, and I like that it saves store alarms if the same signal at same strength is detected in same location 3 times consecutively.
If I buy a new one will be a RedLine or another 9500ix.
Yuuuuup Sinister-one !!, the price is a little steep, about the cost of a serious speeding ticket !! And to the other reply, 'OUCH' !!
When I travel here in Texas, most speed limits have been uped to 75 and one toll road is up to 80. But when I head north, south or east the speed limits are 75 and I'm usually running about 85.
About the only difference I see in the Valentine V1 vs the Escort are the directional arrows that tell you where the threat is coming from. usually once the detector starts chirping on the low end I'm already slowing down.....
So at that point does it really matter where the threat is coming from ??
Just a heads up!!
Here in Virginia they are still not legal. And, the VASP use radar detector---detector's.
Also in the passed couple years, the courts said that they are no longer allowed to confiscate them either. But get busted and OOOUCH $$$$$$$$$$$$$......

I have both also, really like the 9500ix for the GPS/block.
Any big advantages of getting new firmware for the 8500?
I have yet to update my 9500 after several years, any major changes?
Why replace the Escort? I have the same unit, and it has been a great performer here in Az. and also California. I get hits when the cops are still a mile down the road.
