so do the newer MGW kits come with the new lower box?
Yes, it comes with the complete lower box assembly as well as the alignment tool for it. it was a very simple install. will take pics of the completed install as soon as i get back from my work trip.
Also, everything in the kit comes pre-lubricated... https://www.mgwshifters.com/shifters/corvettes/88
Ordered mine about a week and a half ago. I had to get one because everybody makes this shifter out to better than sex! The curiosity is killing me to get this thing and drive my car. If it makes as big of a difference as everyone says it does, it will be money well spent!

Very well spent money indeed... i swear, this is the best mod i've ever done to a car.
My 02 has the MGW. I love it but have a question. I now have trouble hitting 5th. It feels like there is a second location for third gear... I am getting used to it, but is there something else I need to check? Would this VENOM mod help?
Had my MGW installed last week. I am disappointed at how much harder I have to push / pull the shifter. I do find the shifting to be more precise, but it feels more like weight lifting than like shifting a car. (OK, I exaggerate). I also find that the MGW shifter ****, being made of hard material and having a bit of a sharp edge where it flattens out on top, cuts into my hand a bit when I make the shifts.
I suppose the anti-venom mod comes next.

Could be an alignment issue with the lower box on the shifter...
The Anti-Venom mod just adds a washer or two to the shifter detent plug on the transmission, basically reducing the notchy feeling that the t-56 is known for... one down side is this makes it easier for the transmission to slip out of gear, (i know some t-56 cars have an issue with staying in reverse or first if the shifter is not held there)
If you are interested in doing the Anti-Venom mod, Toque did an awesome graphical write-up of how its supposed to go. http://www.toquez06.com/avm.html

Give it a few weeks to break in and the anti venom mod wouldn't hurt.

I have to agree ...and I still miss 3rd gear at times. I have had mine for over a year.

Had the same issue when I first installed mine. When I installed it I screwed the shift rod all the way down into the box as far as it would go and I put my **** on all the way down. I backed the shift rod out to the minimum number of threads recommended by MGW (maybe even a little less) and I moved my shift **** up a bit higher as well. The increased leverage made shifting 10x easier and I haven't had any issues since (haven't snapped the rod either, good considering I barely have the recommended threads in).
Food for thought! I'd advise tweaking it a little as I don't think the overall force necessary to shift will really change with the anti-venom mod.

Thanks for the tip...I will give it a try. I don't think I want to mess with the anti-venom mod.

Thank you very much. so am I the only guy having trouble hitting 5th?

Thanks for the suggestion, it sounds worth trying.
I had the shifter installed by the dealer because I didn't have the time or skill to do it myself. But if I understand this recommendation, it is a much easier job, one that I should be able to do in a few minutes. Does that sound right?

I tried it and it worked. Much happier now. I am going to go back to the original **** though. The MGW **** is too hard. I prefer the leather wrap of the OEM ****.

I never had a problem with hitting 3rd but sometimes hit 2nd when going to 4th. I found that it would happen when hard acceleration when getting on the E-way and going to the left lane the car was pulling me to the left and thus I was pulling the shifter left. I also read a post where someone posted when going to 3rd. just push the shifter forward and it will never miss. 5th I find you do need to push to the right some!!!! My 2 cents!!!!!!
I've had all 3 top brands. And I still think the Hurst is the best.
Hmmm... Makes me wonder if I want to try the MGW. I have the Hurst in now. I like the adjustable positive stops, prevents over rowing and damaging something. I like the new MGW flat stick design with the new lower box, but no positive stops makes me hesitant to change it out. I don't worry about the effort it takes to shift, my old clutch car was a Jerico 4 speed and Long shifter.
