Default What are the most extreme reactions you've generated from driving your Corvette?

I've had my Corvette for about a year and have generated some extreme reactions, positive and negative over that period. It is amusing at times when people feel compelled to speak or act just because I am driving a Corvette that most could afford to buy. I love my Corvette and love to work on it more than I enjoy driving it, but it's just a car. By no stretch does it define me beyond an interest I have of being a car enthusiast. However, many people have all kinds of stereotypes and emotions generated when they see my car or me driving it.

I'm 31 years old and just shaved my playoff beard from the end of my championship hockey season. When shaved, admittedly I look younger than 31. Today I went to home depot in my Corvette, when leaving the parking lot and reaching the light, a 90s Dodge Ram pulled up next to me driven by a guy who was probably in his early 60's.

He had his window down, looked at my car and then saw me driving it and started talking loudly to his passenger saying, "look at this guy next to me, can you believe this a**hole? Driving mommy's car, this is what's wrong with this country, entitled little ****** getting everything they want for doing nothing and being worthless. That kid's parents shouldn't have been allowed to breed."

At that point I turned up the volume on my amplified stereo I spent the weekend putting in to the point I could no longer hear what he was blathering on about. Regardless it was quite a strong a opinion to form on someone that has never spoken a word to him. Conversely when I drive my Corvette through my own neighborhood almost every neighbor of mine will wave or say hello even though I haven't met most of them. If I drive my honda accord and wave to those same neighbors I haven't met, I get no wave or friendly gestures.

I try my best to only judge people based on their actions or words. There are exceptions to the rules but for the most part I stick those values my parents ingrained in me as a kid. But I acknowledge many people look at all types of things to stereotype and judge others without ever hearing a word written or spoken from an individual.

What are the most extreme reactions have you generated from driving your Corvette, good or bad?

The actions/reactions from random encounters with people that you have experienced, are no different than those many many other people have experienced over the decades, and is definitely not limited to just Corvette drivers/owners.

This is an immutable characteristic of human behavior stemming primarily from envy, jealousy and insecurity, and it will not change,.

I know one thing, I've never experienced a reaction like you did from that complete jerk in the Ram pickup. Has to be a sad life he has to carry that much anger and jealousy around all the time.

I have noticed several passive aggressive honks from other cars which I didn't deserve. And feel like it was only because of the car I was driving. Also there is just something about a corvette that makes everyone try and race you.

On the positive side, daily compliments from random people, and waves from other vette drivers.

After moving to SW Florida I was gassing up with the Mrs. waiting on me. A minivan pulled in front of us really close up to the next pump. The door opened and a guy about my age got out and started walking back to me and I am thinking OK what is going on here. After smiling he then said " My wife told me if I scratched your car she was going to help you beat me ! ". We both had a good laugh over it. Too bad an a-h@le tried to ruin your day IMO you did well ignoring the idiot.

Yeah that guy has problems. Good thing it didn't happen on arrival to home depot or you might have come out of the store with a few more scratches than you arrived with.

The only reaction I notice is that people tend to get out of the way when I'm behind 'em in the fast lane, and that's perfectly fine with me. I got this car to drive, not to be gawked at. When I bought my ride it was advertised by the dealer as pewter...an hour later I'm staring at a red vette. The condition was too good to pass up, but it's far from my preferred color. I'm about your age, hope people aren't thinking the same thing as that dick you bumped into, but I guess they can think anything they want as long as they leave me the hell alone.

I think what is extreme is the amount of compliments I get when ever I am behind the wheel, or just when the Vette is parked.

When I had my 66 Tbird, I thought I got lots of compliments and thumbs up, but I get just as many, if not more with the Vette.
Yesterday I went to the park, and snapped this picture.

After 3 or 4 more pictures, a couple in their early thirties came over and asked about the car.

The gal said, "all I can say is absolutely beautiful."
Her guy friend said, "It shows, you really love your car".
I thanked them, and they left.
I thought to myself, what's not to love?

Thankfully, I didn't care what the Ram owner was saying. Just caught off guard he was so negatively inspired because he saw my face behind the wheel of my Corvette. Can't think of a moment in my life I was aware of someone guzzling the 'hate-orade' on my account more so than the owner today, particularly when they had never met me. Don't care if others feel that way, just don't do anything to me or my car and I can live with your opinion.

On the plus side I have had countless positive experiences like others can attest, the comradery amongst Corvette owners on the road is unlike anything else. Have met a lot of friendly fellow Corvette owners in the last year just from taking a drive.

The best positive reaction I've had was a few months ago, I was driving with the mrs. to the grocery store. I had a gentleman I suspect in his late 70's or early 80's park next to me right as I pulled in to park. He wasn't there to shop, he pulled up just to tell me he thought I had the nicest corvette he had ever seen. He then said something to the extent of, "I've seen corvettes since they were released, always loved them and have NEVER seen one as nice as yours." Couldn't help but crack a grin from ear to ear about that.

Have had several positive encounters, waves, honks, hollers, stares...
I'm proud of your control and restraint.... would have been pretty easy to have confronted the dipstick that was so jealous of your car...
There will lots of good stuff happen to ya!

Mostly I get a big thumbs up from most people. I'd say the worst reaction I ever got was from another Vette owner. Pulled in to a gas station to fill up, there was a guy in a nice C6 filling up two pumps down. He saw me drive up (it's like, how can you miss it, right) and he would never even make eye contact with me. All I wanted to do was say hello and tell him I liked his car. But no, not so much as a nod. Saw him glance my way once then turn his back. What the crap........most guys are eager to meet another Vette owner/driver. This guy had to have some serious issues.

Most likely he does not care about his car. He thinks it's just a car that takes him from point A to point B.

Owned the car since 2002. Nothing but positive, especially from the guys on the Air Base!

Never had any truly negative experiences thus far, other than your standard driver to driver harassment. (Brake checks, tailgating, etc.) Far more to love about these cars than to hate.

As a fellow hockey player, I've had my share of playoff beards. Nothing says relief like a good shave after a great season.

Nothing really negative yet.

I have had a few people ask me if I would like to swap cars...that's kind of cool. One of my oldest friends told me to not come over to his house with it because he would probably steal it.

Don't get many waves though. Waved two or three times last weekend and nothing in return. Oh well...

Reactions I get vary on whether or not I'm driving normally or not. I get a lot of people stopping me that like the car, inquire about the mods/hp/"how fast it goes"...all that typical randomness. To be quite honest attention is something I don't like at all. For a few years I brokered a myriad of exotics and quite frankly, people taking pictures and stopping me is pretty highly annoying, and if anything made me drive them less and less. I drove a Diablo VT down through Pittsburgh a few times, went to the Casino, to eat, etc....never again....

The best reactions I've enjoyed from my Z06 though, are I've had young girls (pre-teens) run and scream because I jumped on it right behind them and blew tire past them. There was a homeless looking fellow with his hoodie over his head walking and I tore *** past him...he jumped in the air and did a mid air 180 to see what was coming...found it quite comical. Most of the time I get reactions from people is when I momentarily blow some mid gear tire off...they pull up later at a light and are pretty interested. Have to consider the area I was in though...modded sports cars aren't really a norm.

Siting at a stop light the guy next to me says nice looking car. I said thank you. He replies, no thank you for the eye candy. So to drive a car that gets all kind of compliments. Very

I bought my car 11 years ago when I was 22 years old. It was still the current model then, and boy did I get a lot of dirty looks from people who I can only assume were jealous. I would just smile and wave

I get the most outrageous reactions when out in the pace car. From groups of kids on the street stopping and all pointing at it, to other drivers breaking necks checking it out wondering what exactly it is. I'm not sure they're positive or negative, but really don't care. What i know is there aren't that many out on the road, so most people aren't sure what it is with the exception of other Corvette drivers.
