Sounds like overkill to me, but hey if you feel better. Been compounding and polishing mine for years without tape or problems. Car looks great.

I don't think it's possible to burn C5 paint with a porter cable but you definitely want to tape off the trim like you did as it saves a lot of cleanup later.
Nassau blue, right? I absolutely love the color and I had the joy of detailing one awhile back, looks amazing after compounding and polishing
Yeah, I figured taping it was overkill for a PC, but when I last did this years ago before I sold it, I crinkled some paint on one of the BSM's with it. So figure better safe than sorry.
