Anyone else have problems getting into 3rd under hard acceleration
I have a m6 and for some reason I constantly miss 3rd. If its relevant I never use 3rd under normal driving conditions I aways go 1-2-4-6 in the city. Any ones else have this problem

I used to have a difficult time finding 3rd and 5th... but, not since I upgraded to the C6 Z06 shifter, Anti Venom Mod, and Amsoil Torque Drive fluid in the trans...Also did the Ranger Method (about 20 times) and switched to Lucas Dot 4 fluid...

I was missing 3rd once in awhile at wot, seemed I was tryin to hard to move the stick to 3rd. Just shove it up and I hit 3rd now no problems. Let the shifter work, don't try and move it over , let it slide in on its own has been my experience.
I do have a MGW short shifter now.

I was having some problems going into 3rd under WOT acceleration and was constantly missing it (I partly blame the sloppy stock shifter)
My 1998 has around 120,000 miles so its getting some age on it and I'm definitely not easy on it!
Anywho I changed my trans/diff fluid the other day (super easy btw) and my shifting has become so much smoother and I haven't had any problems hitting gears.
I will be upgrading to the MGW Short Throw Shifter soon (C6 Z06 isn't a permanent fix, it will wear out again just like the stock one)
The MGW Short Throw replaces the whole box and essentially replaces it with a spherical bearing that cannot wear out plus they're made in America (pretty sure anyway)

If you are trying to speed shift into third forget it. It's the nature of the beast. Sounds like you might be in the market for a new short throw shifter. Do your research and pick one that you think will suit your needs. Good luck and let us know what you ended up doing.

how does your clutch pedal feel when you are not able to get into 3rd?... does it stay about halfway to the floor and get stiff, not allowing you to depress the pedal thus not releasing the clutch and allowing you to shift?... if that's the case it sounds like a stock clutch issue and not the shifter or user error... it could possibly be the hydraulics as well but the same symptoms happened to me in the past, I tried a tick master cylinder and flushed it several times with expensive fluids to no avail... as soon as I went to an aftermarket clutch my problems disappeared... in my opinion the factory self adjusting pressure plate is the root cause of many shifting issues in these cars... the more power you add the harder it seems to get it to shift... the only time I would recommend a stock replacement would be to someone that drives the car like a prius, if you plan to add power and want to drive the car aggressively then the stocker needs to go in my opinion

I have driven manual transmissions since I was 14, driving hay trucks that shifted better than the C5... so, after nearly 40 years of driving manual transmissions I don't think it's driver error, at least in my case that the C5 is not always user friendly when shifting...I do think some are worse than other...or better than some.
BUT, since I upgraded to the C6 Z06 shifter, did the Anti-Venom Mod, did the Ranger Method about 20 times and switched to Lucas DOT 4 synthetic fluid, and Put Amsoil Torque Drive fluid in the Trans... it shifts MUCH better/smoother, no more notchyness and more positive... no more wondering if it's going into the correct gate... I also found that with this hydraulic clutch similar to the same operation as that on a (hydraulic) Harley clutch... it doesn't slip...it is either engaged or NOT... so, I use only enough pedal to make the shift not pushing it clear to the floor every time I shift... we used to slip our clutches some for nice smooth shifts that just doesn't work with these newer model hydraulics...I guess I shouldn't say it doesn't work, it just is different, if that makes sense.
I use 3rd and 5th a LOT but, we live in a very rural area and don't drive much in town so I understand what your saying...
