Raced a GTO LS2
on the way home there is a very long road and much to my surprise I came upon a LS2 GTO we started out at a 60 MPH punch. I was a full car lenght from 60 to about 130 then he pulled me now I know the GTO`s are very heavy and the LS2 is 400 HP I was just surprised he pulled me on top end the way he did. I`m not sure if he has a Auto or 6 speed I just know it was dam LOUD !!! I did not get a chance to talk with him just found out he lives in my area so I will find him this weekend and find out his MODS, I have a 2004 A4 with twin cones filters and a ZO6 Titanium Exuast no tune. Could he be on Nitrous ??

weight is far less of a factor in a roll race... what rear gear do you have?... I would say if his car was a 6 speed and you have 2.73 gears is why he pulled you up top... he might have exhaust but probably not much more than that otherwise it wouldn't have taken him as long to catch you

Not everyone buys a corvette to autocross or run it on the dragstrip. I am not condoning street racing, but it is a fast car. And if you didn't want to drive it fast once in a while, you (generically speaking) probably should have stuck with the mini van.

I'm sorry but racing is for the strip or track and not the streets. As with everything else on this forum, your mileage may vary.

I'd go directly to the nearest dealership and sell my Vette if I got beat by a GTO.... Just sayin.

There is always a faster car out there - you just happened to run into one that is quick on the top end. Would be interesting to know what mods he has on the car though.
Don't know what auto tranny cars you've driven, but my A4 will certainly set you back in the seat when you stomp on the pedal from a roll.

Stock gearing in all GTO's are 3.46's im assuming you have 2.73's Alot of those GTO's will surprise you, and yes the GTO's are heavy but not crazy heavy. I think my 04 weight 3721 at a weight on at motorsports ranch.

ummm, yes... I didn't say it wasn't a factor at all it's just not as much as if both cars were starting from a dead stop... the 1/4 times for a stock gto and base c5 are nearly identical so there isn't much of a mystery here, especially since the op has stock gears which I'm pretty sure is why he lost

3721 lbs Were you in it with a passenger too?
A number of factors are responsible for this: the relatively light weight of the C5 (a curb weight under 3,300 lb (1,500 kg); Chevrolet went so far as to omit the spare tire as a weight-saving measure, relying upon run-flat tires instead).......
