I'd give the nod to the Vette when comparing those two years.

It ran good in 1969; respectfully. But horsepower ratings were gross and not net. A big block vette is probably an honest 350hp; maybe a hair less. Then you're on an 8" bias ply.
My dad had an l46 (350/350) 69 stingray. It'd be lucky to get out of the 15s.
Can you improve on those cars? Sure; esp with today's technology. But they aren't even in the same realm as modern muscle or sports cars. You'll be tearing up fragile old driveline trying to do anything.
I've gone 13.4s at a slow track in a clapped stock 99 z28. My c5 went 12.9 with mufflers; they aren't even stellar times at a fast track. Hell my crap slow 3v went 13.9 @ 101 there.
The baddest of the bad in the 60s off the floor were high 12 sec cars. Only thing worth writing home over is a 427 Cobra.

Vette is lighter, has more hp, and more tq. Seems fairly obvious unless the driver of the corvette is clueless. The mustang would need a ton of work to keep up, either fully built NA motor or boost.

If you never took one of those old cars to the track back then you don't realize just how good cars are today, my 69 396 chevelle ran 14.01 and it was fast in the late 80's for a car without lots of money in it ( paid $1000.00 for it).

I drove a few muscle cars back in the 70s. 70 Formula 400 365 hp, 455 Super Duty Trans am. 70 Z28 350 Hp, 440 Charger, 383 Cuda, SS 396 Chevelle. They all seemed really fast back then.
