New shifter
I'm thinking about adding a performance shifter to my 04 Vette. I was thinking of going with B&M but I am open to any suggestions from those that like other models. All comments are welcome...

I like my 2008 C6 ZO6 shifter. A significant improvement and overall a much better feel over the stock one which felt notchy.

You will get every opinion under the sun. No one cn tell you what you will like,.. everyone want to push their choice because it validates their choice. because a shifter adds so much to the sensory feedback of driving your car.. it should be your choice, and not someone else's. Because I happen to like a certain shifter, that doesn't mean you will. Each shifter has specific characteristic which are seen in different ways by different people.. I could tell you what Shifter I have been using for the last 14 years, and how enjoyable each shift is, but what would be the point, you could hate it for all the reasons why I like it. Feel, touch, stroke, force, notch, are all characteristics which are slightly different in every shifter. Everyone perceives those characteristic in a slightly different way.

Like Evil-Twin said, you'll get many biased opinions on this. It really does depend on what style driving you are into.
If nothing too crazy, with random races here and there, I definitely recommend the C6 shifter. I've had it installed on two of my previous Zs and loved it. It's shorter, smoother, yet notchier than the stock C5 shifter, and it looks great.
Just purchased a new to me 03 Z which came with a Hurst shifter and I must say that I'm pleasantly surprised also. It's a bit higher than the C6 shifter, because you need the extra leverage due to higher notchiness, but it's smoother than I though it would be. 2nd to 3rd shifts are better than with the C6. Definitely a more race type of a shifter.
Mostly anything you get will be better than the stock. Good luck with your choice.

Not sure how any single shifter could be hands down the best... some people want a very short throw and others want a slightly longer throw because it makes the shift moment of angle less difficult to engage.. some wanted a very precise gated engagement, and other want looser tolerances so a missed shift is less of an issue but slightly slower.
So there is no shifter that is " hands down " the best for everyone.

I was not attacking your input, only that you said it was the best shifter hands down. No it can't be tall and short, soft and hard , gaited and ungated at the same time.. My point was that even though your choice was hands down the best... to the OP his experience my find it to be a POS.
Chill?
Too many people go ga ga over something exclaiming its superiority " hands down " only to enforce their own choice on something as a means to validate that choice. Many newbies here are in a dilemma over everyone's Hands down choice... I simply provided a logical and thought provoking comment on the value of a single individual's testimonial that it is the Best " Hand down " sorry you took it personally but that on you , not me. IM trying to provide some meaningful insight to internet opinion, no one here is an absolute expert in everything..

Only one I can comment on is the Core hurst shifter, good price ,sharp crisp shifts with a click into gear feeling, and easy to shift, and you have a million handles to chose from.

I went from stock, to a C6 Z06 shifter/****, and now I use a B&M ripper. I liked the C6 better than stock, and I like the B&M much better than the C6.
If you know someone with an aftermarket shifter in their Vette, try before you buy! Otherwise, you pretty much have to take a shot in the dark, buy one, and hope you like it. Shifters are a very subjective choice, just like wheels and exhaust options, there is no "best" for everyone.
I bought the Z06 because it was very highly spoken of on the forums. I liked the ergonomics and the ****, but it wasn't much different than my stock shifter. I bought the B&M because I found a good deal on craigslist, but many of the reviews said it would make the car nearly undriveable! For me that could not be further from the truth, don't believe everything you read online

well how about giving him some options instead of just ranting about what someone else feels is a great choice... personally I love my mgw shifter as well... it was a little tight when I initially installed it but after adding a thin washer to the detent plug (antivenom mod as it's called around here) it feels perfect... mine is about 5-6 years old so it's not the newest design with the billet lower box... mine shifts so good that I cannot justify taking it out to upgrade to the newer design

I agree with the previous thread regarding "try it before you buy it". Get involved with a local Corvette club and get them to let you check out their shifter selections. I personally hate the idea of shelling out several hundred dollars for something I'm really not sure about. But that's just me...

Breathless shifter here...
Not super short throw but shorter then factory...
Lots of feedback on engaging - very easy to feel the "gates"
Little tough to get into 1st and 5th new but after 2k-3k it is smooth
