Default My 2002 z06

I just got my Corvette put back together today after doing a few mostly cosmetic changes, so I thought it'd be a good time to give it its own thread!

I bought this 2002 Corvette Z06 last spring with 26,000 miles on it and completely stock except for some Hawk brake pads, Goodrich stainless brake lines, and BFG Rival tires. I rented a car to drive to Milwaukee to pick it up, and then drove it home that night. That was a fun day!

I left it just like that and enjoyed the hell out of it all summer, including a few autocross events and taking it to Michigan for my vacation.

Fourth of July. Murica!

Also made it to the dyno day in town.

I parked it for the winter in my little garage and by this time had decided on what I wanted to do with it. Getting aftermarket wheels like I would want was going to cost a few thousand bucks, so instead, I decided to get another pair of the factory rear Speedlines and run the 18x10.5 size on all four corners.

Based on some tastes I picked up from being a Subaru guy, I decided on powder coating the wheels bronze and the calipers bright blue. The Hawk HP+ pads from the previous owner were more aggressive than I need, dusted like ****ing crazy, and had really chewed up the stock rotors. I went to Wilwood for new pads, rotors, and fluid. So I started collecting parts and some tools I didn't have yet and got to work.

It was really hard to find these tires. BFG apparently discontinued this size.

Got the parts back from powder coating. Love how the colors came out!

I also wanted a louder exhaust. I originally thought I wanted to go full 3" on this car eventually, so I bough the LG Big 3. That thing sounds really cool at idle, very deep, but it's hardly louder than stock when you're out driving. So I turned right around and sold that and picked up a Borla S-type system instead.

And here it is all finished as of today. I lowered it as much as I could on stock hardware too.

I'll get some more pictures up once I get it washed. I still need to figure out the center caps since they are plastic and couldn't be powder coated. The local paint shop wasn't able to match the wheel color, so I'll probably just have to go with black. They did match the blue pretty well though, so I'm going to try painting the red parts of the Corvette badges blue at some point. Otherwise, window tint and removing the side moldings should happen soon-ish, and maybe clear corner light lenses since my stock ones are cracked.

Let me know what you think! Thanks for reading!

Sounds like you've been pretty busy, nice work! I liked the car with the silver wheels, your car certainly looks unique with the new combo though. Getting ready to replace my stock brake pads at 46k with stop tech ceramics next weekend. My stock pads still stop well but the brake dust drives me crazy. Have fun with it this summer.

I like it all. It's different. What size tires are you running F/R?

Thanks guys! I know the color combo isn't for everyone, but I couldn't be happier with it. It came out just like I had been picturing it in my head.

I'm running 295/35-18 BFG Rival tires all around.

The wheel color is hideous.

Looks like a clean car, though.

Nice car, but the wheels are horrific, sorry. Black, brushed or if you must; even chrome would be better.
Have fun, it's your car.

I like the wheels, and blue calipers make a bold statement. I would recommend that alignment and shocks be next on the list. Hope you keep the Ti's because at some point you will get tired of the drone (I know cause I have the Borla"s too), and if you plan on tracking or even auto-xing sound regulations at sights, and tracks are getting tight.

Haha, I knew I'd get hate on the wheels here. Just like confirmed above, wheels are scary if they aren't stock, chrome, or black. I love the color I've got, especially since it's something unique.

I do still have the Ti system but I'm liking the Borlas so far. Very little drone in my opinion, but then I actually like some drone.

Yeah that's everyone's mentality on here....Not....

its one thing to be different and then another to be distasteful.

Haters? Probably NOT!

The consensus is the wheels look terrible. Nobodies hating here, just being honest. We're supposed to say, "oh, how pretty" when we don't feel that way? Bunch of softies, just like most Americans, including the president.

AS long as the owner likes it, it shouldn't matter what people say. He doesn't seem butt hurt about the comments and that's good.

Haters? How's that? The OP stated, and I quote, "let me know what you think". Why say that if you don't really want to know what others think?

Not sure that five memebers draws a forum consensus, but yeah, I still love how it came out so it's fine. Bronze wheels are actually pretty popular in other car communities.

With the sun directly on the wheels in those first pics, they look a lot more orange. Lighting really changes how these look. And it may not be low, but it's definitely lower than it was, which is good enough for now

I had my wheels powedercoated gloss black - then painted the center caps on my own - what are you thinking for those??

Check out gorilla or mcgard premium colored lugs too they have some nice anodized ones that would complement your wheels nicely

I'm going to paint my center caps gloss black as well, I think it'll look good. Once I get that done, I'll consider different lug nuts, but I think I'll be happy with the stockers.
